Losers Live Longer

Lovers live longer

That's what they say

Well, maybe that's true

When you count each & every day

But if you ask the heart

It'll have this to say

Losers live longer

It sure feels that way.

Lovers live longer

Read it in the headlines

Well, it really depends

On how you count time

Just look into the soul

And it'll have this to say

Losers live longer

It sure feels that way.

Till death do you part

As a man and a wife

But so very few do

Most don't and cling to life

But ask those hearts

Who have been betrayed

Losers live longer

It sure feels that way

Losers live longer

Broken bones grow stronger

drop-D capo 4

A G/D D

*

Original tune. Three tracks: trk 1, vox & git; trk 2, harmony vox; trk 3, lead git. Recorded on a Zoom H4n and all tracks were bounced down to one track while inside the Zoom and then put online. There's no spot checking the levels -- just set and go and try to blend while playing (though you can adjust the overall volume of each track afterwards). Each track is a 1-take.

There have been a few 1-take multitracks in the past. I propose that we start calling such entries Virtual Open Mic Multitrack 1-Take, aka VOMM1T. :)

At the risk of great public humiliation, I'm humbly submitting this song selection. It was a true one take, one track recording to Garageband on my Macbook Pro. I think I just used the built in mic. The only thing I added was a little reverb. It's a real old timey song, I think by a guy named Alfred Brimley, IIRC. I first heard it years and years ago on the Aereo-plain album by John Hartford.

Fine and Tender Ladies based on Stefan Grossman arrangement

Decided not to get a better recording thingee. Saving for another guitar instead.

This just in: I've been working with a lyricist to co-write songs

and we wrote a rocker together called Live And Die In Love.

I then commissioned Charlie Betts, a musician friend from the UK,

to add tracks to the song. Charlie and I have collaborated before

and do trades (I've contributed to his band's CD).

Charlie hired a drummer and here's the song credits:

Music by: Gil

Lyrics co-written by: Sue Mrithujayan & Gil

Acoustic Guitar and all vocals: Gil

Lead Electric Guitar: Bob Ridgway

Rhythm Electric: Charlie Betts

Bass: Charlie Betts

Drummer: Dave Barry

This is just a rough test mix to experiment with levels.

All tracks have been sent on to a professional mastering engineer for final mastering.

Here is a cover of a Modest Mouse song called Perfect Disguise, I am borrowing a friends banjo so I had to work it into the VOM. Recorded on my iPhone, mixed in Garage band with some reverb, played on my Yamaha FG700s, and all done one take each but there are a couple tracks.

Thanks for listening, up at 5am finishing this one up lol

Hi everyone,

I've wanted to get something together for this month, but my health has not allowed it, unfortunately. Won't bore you with the details, but I am not very well, and will be going to a specialist this week.

Happy VOM to everyone!

Cheers,

Glenn

Glenn, best wishes & hope you are feeling much better very soon. :thu:

Strawberry Fields Forever by Lennon/McCartney

(keeping the fab 4 flame alive here on the vom while tbryson takes a break this month in order to share one of his great originals. very nice indeed, by the way.)

The photos I slugged in here are Savannah, GA visiting my son Alex who is finishing up his phd there. He's a huge Beatles fan, too. We spent two days touring this beautiful city on bicycles.

Been working on writing a few songs this past week or two. None are quite finished yet so I'm submitting one as an instrumental. Not sure whether I should leave it alone as an instrumental or whether I should get working on some words, but anyway, here it is:

On Valentine's Day last month, which coincidentally was the date of the last VOM1T, I recorded this song for my wife. I had submitted another song for the VOM that day, but I added this one to the thread later on. I made a one-take video, but completely screwed up the ending, so later I went back and did some overdubs with my Les Paul. I added a lead and replaced the ending. This doesn't count as a one-take because of the overdubs, and it's an acoustic/electric hybrid, but it's what I have for this month. I'm away from home this week and can't record anything else. The original recording was done with my HD-35. I used the AKG Perception 220 on the vocal. The HD-35 was DI from the DTar pickup. I mic'ed the Les Paul with an SM57 in front of a Fender Deluxe. It was mixed in Logic Express.

So here's my cover of "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton that I recorded on Valentine's Day for my wife, and then fixed later in the mix.

Original piece with a highly imaginative title:

"Sketch in A Major #2"

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=901761&songID=8812845

Played on an amazing Christopher Dean guitar, recorded using a pair of AT 4041's into a Presonus Firebox preamp into Cubase SE on an iMac. A very slight amount of compression and reverb were added.

For those of you who can decipher the little black dots, here's the score:

This is all borrowed from The Hook, by Blues Traveler. Each part is one take so the timing is off. Honestly, there's something about when that light goes on I don't think it matters how many takes I do, the light just gets me. Anyway, here's my hack version...

Edited to add: Martin D1, Zoom H2, Garage Band.

I'm on the road this week, and may not have time to comment on every submission, but I'll give it a try.

Michael Martin - I've always admired the ability to write prolifically. I'm totally blocked when it comes to writing, so good on ya!. I also like the stream-of-consciousness nature of your songs. Nice job.

chriscarnucci - Lovely, as usual!

BlackHatHunter - One of my all-time favorites. Yes, it is a perfect song, and you do it justice. I felt what I usually feel every time I hear that song. It's powerful. Thank you. I've got to learn that one now myself.

TBryson - Nice!! Well done!

Garthman - I don't know that Dylan song, or that album. Thanks. Nice job.

Oldskool_Texas - Great song! And your guitars sound wonderful. Love it!

Fendouglas - That's funny!!

Stackabones - Sweet 'n swingin'!

Carguy - Nice job! Great song and well played. Interesting flanging effect with the reverb there. I'm listening on a good set of cans and your voice is swimming in circles around my head. It's kinda cool. Do you know how you got that?

hypcollector - Nice! Thanks!

poppytater - That sounds really good. Just remember, if you can play it slow, you can play it fast with practice. Well recorded too.

fatback - That was sweet.

g6120 - It's getting really elaborate. It sounds good, really good, and it must have been a lot of fun to put together, but I kinda miss just you and your guitar in the closet...

Gotta go...Thanks to everyone who has shared. I haven't been able to listen to them all, but hopefully I'll have time for more later..

Here is a new song that I wrote. I recorded this a couple weeks ago in one take and it's a little rough, but hey... it's open mic right?

Since I got my American Standard Stratocaster, I have been trying to apply my acoustic style to electric guitar. I know that probably sounds kinda weird, but I just love the sound of these single coils with some chorus and delay. Plus, I'm just a weird guy...:)

Anyway... It's titled: Spend Some Time, and I hope you enjoy it.

Also, feel free to leave some comments and rate this song if you want...:thu:

Hi guys - had a chance to listen to most of the submissions this months. Will hopefully get to the rest this afternoon. Here is what I have so far.

Michael Martin - Love the sound of the auditorium. You should do more recordings there if you have a chance.

Chris Carnucci - Man this one was beautiful. Beautiful chords, lyrics were poetry, and beautifully sung. Can't say enough great things about this!

Blackhat Hunter - Great cover. One of my favorite Springstein songs.

Oldskool TX - Loved this song. Really loved the harmonies on the backup vocals. Assume that that is you backing yourself up.

Chris Baker Great lyrics, loved all the acoustic fills.

Hypnocollector _ great song Paul. Tell Abigail that she can song on my tracks anytime.

Queepeg - Loved the sound of that Archtop. I will be sending you a copy of my purchase order for my new Eastman. I was on the fence about buying one and you my friend have put my back in the buy it camp.

Surrealistic Great acoustic solo. I wouldn't change a thing on that. Leave it as an instrumental.

Riffmeister Great composition, reminds me of the bach cello suites.

Hi all! Can't wait to start streaming all the VOM goodness for this month :)

Here's my contribution:

Title: Yellow Ledbetter

Written By: Pearl Jam

FussenKuh - Guitar

CountRobVonRolf - Vocals

This is one of my favorite PJ songs and, over the past few years, I've recorded and uploaded a few different instrumental versions to my YouTube channel. This rendition was posted mid last month. It's existence came about when I was contacted by a fellow YouTuber after he had heard some of my other renditions of the tune. He offered to provide some vocals if I recorded a full version of the song. I jumped at the collaboration opportunity, recorded a full-length version of the tune (complete with an improvised solo), and "shipped" it across the country for some vocals. This video is the culmination of our efforts.

Anyone familiar with the original version of the song will undoubtedly know that it's just about impossible to understand Eddie Vedder's vocals. The vocals in this rendition mostly follow Eddie's lead ;) As with all of my stuff, it's far from perfect, but, it was fun to create.

Here's hoping you enjoy it!

Chris

My first VOMIT. Please be gentle.

Currently working with a guy to get some 60s covers together as an acoustic duo. So Im working on this. Recorded this last Sunday, one take straight into the laptop mic & webcam, no other enhancements. By Jackie Deshannon, Searchers had the hit, covered by many. I first heard it from THe Boss and the ESB live
