Some very quick impressions and questions and such:

Gitnoob, I didn't notice any mistakes. Were you not planning on singing? Your voice was pretty burried in the mix. Sounded like it was just bleed through on the guitar mic. I'd like to hear you sing with it.

Stackabones, That's cheating! You're not in reentrant tuning! I just got a cheapo reso uke and it's kicking my...pecker off. I really dig using the 4th string as a high pitched pedal tone, but it sure would make more sense to me an octave down! Assuming you fiddle with it, can I request your next ditty be reentrant tuned?

Chriscarnucci, you've got an eagle eye. That is my Larrivee D-02R. All solid wood and with a hard case for $600, some 12-15 years ago. I was heartbroken when they discontinued these. At the time it was the only sub $1000 non laminate I could find. She's my only wood body acoustic...
(for now)

Frets99, Those kids are way cooler than I was at their age! Looks like you're doing a good job. Nice playing and nice singing for sure!!

Thanks for not noticing my several blunders. :)

I was just trying to keep time with the singing. I should probably try humming instead.

I'll tell you -- trying to record for this VOM really brought home to me how hard it is to make it through a piece with no mistakes. I have a deeper appreciation for everybody else's outrageous chops now.

I really liked your MJH piece, BTW -- I'm adding that one to my list.

Excellent performances by everyone! Thanks for enduring the pain of listening to this noob. :)

Wow... where to begin!

Melodeous - Loved your playing and love the song!

Old school texas - Great, great tune. Loved the voicing.

Garthman - I liked it... A LOT!

Michael Martin - I always enjoy your submissions and this one especially.

Tbryson - Different and quite refreshing.

Chriscarnucci - I LOVED that song. It's almost as if you were writing about my own life and where I'm at. That is a GREAT song. A huge thumbs up on that one.

Gitnoob - I like that song and now you've given me the bug to try and learn it. Great playing!

FussenKuh - That was way cool. Nice playing on both ends. I so get into recording stuff like that. I just can't play that stuff... yet. Very cool.

That's all for now folks. I have to listen to some more.

Better late than never......

I got it from James King, bluegrass singer.

Bed by the Window

Two old friends shared a room in a home for the elderly
Confined to their beds their bodies giving way
Old Joe lay by the window and watched the day go by
And Bill lived to hear him tell about the world outside

They shared with each other the stories of their lives
And relived all their memories and dreams of a better time
Outside the leaves were changing, summer turned to fall
And from the bed by the window old Joe described it all

From, the bed by the window he'd tell how the children played
The lovers in the park, the ducks out on the lake
The little boy swept the sidewalk when the sun came up each day
From the bed by the window he told it just that way

On a cold winter morning in the light of the dawn
The bed by the window was empty old Joe had passed and gone
They moved Bill by the window he couldn't hold back the tears
He'd finally see the view outside after all these years

From the bed by the window he couldn't see out at all
There was nothing out that window but an old brick wall

A new friend shares a room in a home for the elderly
Confined to his bed his body has given way
Now Bill lay by the window as the days go by
And his new friend left to hear him tell about the world outside

From, the bed by the window he'd tell how the children played
The lovers in the park, the ducks out on the lake
The little boy swept the sidewalk when the sun came up each day
From the bed by the window he told it just that way

Two old friends shared a room in a home for the elderly

A couple more:

Riffmeister - Beautiful! I could listen to you all day long.

Frets - I usually am not into that but man you and the boys made that ROCK! Very cool.

Stackabones - I'm a huge fan. Very cool.

Bluedog 79 - Wow! Very well done!

Shamuspizzbut - I've always liked that song. Your Laravee sounds awesome and so does your playing.

Glen F - Loved it. That's cool about the history. Very sweet that you still have that.

TSMusic - Great playing as usual!

Excellent work this month.

I've got a couple of songs I'd like to throw in here with, but I seem to be incapable of making MP3 files small enough for HC to let me attach. Is there a way I can get on the VOM site without having participated in VOM previously?

You can upload to a file sharing site like this and link to it:

http://www.divshare.com/login

Or you can just make a you tube and link to that.

I wanted to post something today and I planned to do so, but the release of the latest issue of Ukulele Player Magazine occupied all of my time. They had to happen on the say day, as luck would have it... but I will post a vid tomorrow when I get home from the office.

Meanwhile, Ukulele Player can be downloaded here:

http://www.tricornpublications.com/uke_player.htm

(Issue 13 has a review of the newest version of MixCraft)

Well, by my clock it's almost closing time ... but you know what? If it's still Second Sunday where you live, keep posting. Even it's a bit past Second Sunday and Monday Morning is blinking its bright eyes in your face ...

post 'em if you got 'em!

The mic is still on if you need it ...

Ah! It took longer to export and upload than I thought. But here it is, my first VOM submission! Thanks for the opportunity! This is my first YouTube submission, too. I wanted the recording to be kind of "gritty," so I used my laptop's built-in camera and mic to pick up everything, hence the clipping effect. I decided to match the audio with black-and-white, saturated video. I like the result, but didn't expect YouTube to reduce the quality as much as it did, so it somewhat overblows the effect I was going for.

Guitar: Epiphone AJ500ME with two-week-old D'Addario EXP16s

Prizefighters All!
What Humanism Doesn't Understand

Lyrics:
I believe I'm in beginning stages
Of awareness of my own sins
Of an empty, blank sulkiness
Of never-ending distress
While my brothers feed on each other
Tearing apart flesh and limbs
I realize we can find no joy
And without God there's emptiness

If my refusal to be awoken
Is what put me in this place
Then let me be buried forever
So that I'm out of the way

I'm trying to sing my songs
But I only form broken words
I'll forever gurgle at your feet
Knowing I'll never be heard
And as anger overcame them
In the lives they had before
They begin to bite their own bodies
Fueled by their wrathful cores

If my refusal to be awoken
Is what put me in this place
Then let me be buried forever
So that I'm out of the way

Brutal, vengeful and awful is all they'll ever be
Hopeless, sullen, withdrawn is what describes me
"In weeping and in grieving," a man once said
"Accursed spirit, may you long remain"

Playing catch-up (again)... just skimming through this month's entries, it looks like another quality crop of tunes with a handful of new folks joining in the fun :thu:

Thanks to everyone who checked out my submission and for the feedback! As always, it's greatly appreciated :)

Damn! Missed another one! Have been working the job from hell! The pay is good, but the homeowner keeps changing things and adding more projects to the list. I begin to wonder if I will ever be finished with this remodel!! Worked all weekend. Maybe by next month..............The music is great!!
