Members LordBTY Posted February 21, 2012 Members Posted February 21, 2012 Flicking through the music channels: David Guetta, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj. BAM Lana Del Ray: 'Born to Die' "Oh wow!" I thought. "What the hell is that?" I also noticed Gotye - fairly similar in that it's... well... 'Hipster-ish' Relatively chilled, weird, ambient pop music that you can probably act elitist about. Is this going to get bigger? I haven't been this excited by a new artist since Lady Gaga first came out. Is that particular brand of... 'Hipster-ish-ness' gonna get even bigger? Bigger than David Guetta? What do YOU think?
Members kurdy Posted February 21, 2012 Members Posted February 21, 2012 I think it's popularity has less to do with the style of music, and more that it was accompanied by an eye-catching or novel video that went viral.

Moderators daddymack Posted February 21, 2012 Moderators Posted February 21, 2012 So the real question then is...is 'hipster' even hip any more?
Members kurdy Posted February 21, 2012 Members Posted February 21, 2012 So the real question then is...is 'hipster' even hip any more? Considering how many hipster jokes there are in existence, I'd say their days are numbered. Which to me is a bit of a shame; I kinda like hipsters. It used to be you were either nerdy or cool--they made it possible to be both.
