Holy crap! What happened here while I was away? Gil, the tune rocks, Barack Obama is and will be a historic president for far more than the color of his skin. Oh, and the killing of those kids in 1970 was borderline fascism.

Now, that's that. Everybody go back to the forum and play nice.

yeah, Barak will be historical... he'll go down in history as the smoothest talking bull{censored}ter to ever be the leader of a world super power... he's a {censored}ING joke... while i do admire his public speaking ability and his general suave air, the man himself is a racist socialist. the bail out was the first step, General Motors was the next, now he's pushing for government run media?you know the next step after socialism right? we'll have guards walking the city streets of America and we'll all be standing in line for lima beans and toilet paper... for god sake, the man has been apologizing for America's past indescretions? what the hell is that all about?

and how about the latest military base shooting? George W. jumped in his own car, drove to the base, by himself, and visited the wounded. no cameras, no make up crew, and no flippin' teleprompter... unlike Obama who went down, with the secret service, set up his media crew and never actually visited anyone. my old boss where i work, among several others that i know, was in Iraq when Obama went to "visit" the troops, i've heard from a lot more than one person that he didn't even acknowledge the troops unless the cameras were on...

now, while W may have made the American general public appear to be dip{censored} sister humpers when he spoke in public... at least he had a sack... at least he had the spine to do what he said he was going to and not back down... the only "change" we've seen from Obama so far is more government involvement in the private sector... and when the hell is he going to give a speech WITHOUT making it a point to say " i inherited numerous problems from the previous administration"... the man is ludicrous...

"YES WE CAN"... yes we can bend right on over and let Obama and his minions run it right up our asses and not even get the courtesy of some lube or a reach around or even a {censored}ing kiss for that matter:mad:

All of it. It's not only all wrong, it's completely deluded. Who taught you all that crap? Glenn Beck?

I wouldn't waste time or brain cells on this, Bob. This fight has been going on since the dawn of time, and it will always be.

The facts speak for themselves. The Teabagger candidates in all 3 US Senate primaries (OH IN PA) went home losers last Tuesday.

The right controls its base with fear. Those who buy into it will always freak the hell out anytime progress is made.

I started posting here several weeks ago. I love guitars, and I wanted to exchange ideas with you folks. But since I came here, I have read about the 1.0-2.0 fiasco, the horrible Kent State killings of 1970, and various other things that, sadly, have nothing to do with guitars.

We all have our feelings about all these terrible senseless acts of needless violence that have happened; the Kent State killings, the Columbine massacre, the school killings here in Oregon and around the US, the wars, the slaughter of innocent life anywhere. But it is my feeling that we should hold a special place for these things in our individual hearts.

IMHO, what we are doing here, by attacking each other for our feelings, is only spilling the blood all over again. We can do nothing about what has happened in the past. We can only learn from it and do the things necessary to change the present and the future. Maybe we should talk about those things.

I feel as strongly as all of you about these terrible tragedies. I, myself, have had the misfortune of seeing people die. I have smelled the blood and heard the crying and the screams. But I don't feel that it's proper to voice those feelings here.

So since I can't change things, I'm going to find a forum where I can talk about guitars. I wish all well, and I truly hope you all find what you're looking for. May the Lord Bless you all.

Please stick around a while, gull12. You'll never find another site with as many people willing to share their guitar knowledge. I know it can get a little heated at times over off topic stuff, but it always comes back around to the music. There are some great guys here who make it worth waiting out a flame war every now and then.

Just one more thing, and I'll shut up.

Bush did NOT go alone to visit the shooting victims and their families, without Secret Service agents. He did NOT drive himself to Fort Hood. He did go in secret to avoid press, which is admirable. But having worked all over the political system, I can assure you that no President, or in this case, immediate former president, travels alone. For one thing, he knows WAY too many secrets to travel without security. If he had gone completely alone and been kidnapped by an enemy, it would have been a disaster unlike any in presidential history. He had plenty of Secret Service agents with him.

Ok just this one more thing. I have worked politically with President Obama several times. Not a lot, but enough to know he didn't ignore the soldiers unless the cameras were on.

I have spent enough time with him in front of and away from the cameras. That's not his style.

Now, I'm done. And that guitar is still sweeeet!

All that aside, Dice, you have a hell of a lot of talent! You play and sing amazingly well, and write good songs. I LOVE "Burning Bridges."

Damn son, I wish I had a fraction of your talent.

For those of you that are sick of the political posts here, I found a new acoustic guitar forum. You might want to check it out. The posters stay on topic and they're polite and respectful.

http://www.harmonycentral.com/community/guitars/forums/acoustic-guitars?view=discussions

Anyone tried it?

The only reason that the posters stay on topic and are polite and respectful is because there are just a handful of posters there. That new allegedly super-duper whiz-bang Jive forum software is clunky, quirky, inefficient, unreliable, and inept. Few are willing to put up with it.

Facts:

Rhodes was a loudmouth. He sent in the National Guard at the request of the Mayor. The Guard troops were equipped only with helmets, web gear, and rifles, no riot gear, no tear gas, no shields. Bad combination. Tragic outcome.

Bull{censored}:

Sinister government conspiracies.
Movies
that "examine all of the facts". "A friend that was there that day". If I don't believe this, then I must have chosen not to be "enlightened". "Sorry, you are wrong." Citing a single source out of thousands, in support of your position.

I believe I detect a pattern here.

No, I'm not wrong. Yes, your position is bull{censored}... and I make no condescending apology for that.

Actually I'm not quite getting your point here.
Are you saying the killing and wounding of students that day was justified?
If so, I simply don't agree. You can nitpick what I say all you want but I have attempted to base it on historical fact.

Bottom line is the killing and wounding of University students was not justified. Period. End of argument. No Bull{censored}.

A letter from the mother of Jeff Miller, one of the student protesters killed that day. She wrote this letter to a Philadelphia newspaper for the 40th anniversary:

WHAT I LOST AT KENT STATE
by Elaine Holstein
(from the Philadelphia Inquirer)
On Tuesday, it will be 40 years since my son Jeff was shot and killed on the campus of his college. He and three of his classmates were murdered by the National Guard at an antiwar demonstration at Kent State.

During a 13-second fusillade of rifle fire, Jeff, Allison Krause, Sandy Scheuer, and Bill Schroeder were killed and nine of their fellow students were wounded.

The students who had gathered that day - all unarmed - held a large range of opinions about the seemingly endless war in Vietnam.

Some, including Jeff, objected intensely to the increasing escalation of a war that had begun when they were barely in their teens. In fact, Jeff had written a poem about the war titled "Where Does It End?" in February 1966, shortly before he turned 16.

Others in the crowd had mixed feelings. Some were just onlookers. Some, like Sandy, were on their way to their next class.

And so, May 4, 1970, became one of the blackest days in the history of our country.

It was the day I not only lost my child but also lost my innocence.

I could no longer take on faith what I had been taught all my life about my "constitutional rights," the rights that supposedly made our country different from so many others.

The decade that followed was filled for me with grief, anger, disillusionment, and lawsuits. At the end of our legal battles, we were pressured by the judge and by our lawyers into accepting a settlement in which the parents of the dead students discovered that their sons' and daughters' lives were worth a mere $15,000 each.

It was never about the money for me. I wanted an admission of culpability, and more than that, I wanted an assurance that no mother would ever again have to bury a child for simply exercising the freedom of speech. But all we got was a watered-down statement that better ways must be found, etc., etc.

I also discovered what I perhaps should have known already: that so many of my compatriots did not feel as I did. They believed that the students who were killed or wounded got what they deserved and, as I heard far too often, the National Guard "should have killed more of them." And now - 40 years later - those wounded students are almost senior citizens.

Jeff, however, remains in my memory forever as that bright, funny, passionate 20-year-old.

I have spent 40 years watching my son Russ, Jeff's big brother, grow older. I've valued (perhaps more than I would have if Jeff had not died) the close, satisfying relationship we share.

I've had the great joy of seeing my grandchildren, Jeff (yes, another Jeff Miller) and Jamie, evolve from cute little children into a couple of the most admirable adults I know. I've danced at their weddings and have been made happy by their happiness.

But, once in a while, I wonder about my son Jeff's future, which had so needlessly been cut short.

What would he have been like now at age 60? What sort of career would he have had? Would he have married? And what about those other grandchildren that my husband and I might have enjoyed? Now, as I watch the news on TV each night, I deplore the increasing ugliness of politics, and I'm afraid. I know too well what can happen when hatred takes over.

Please, let us lower the volume and be civil toward one another. For Jeff's sake. And for all of ours.

I don't really know who you are, but those quotes are slammin'! What the hell did you do? (Besides shill for Zager)

And are you really a Zager fan?

I think I'll go hide in the basement until the fight is over...
