Question about joint songwriting and BMI/ASCAP

Hypothetical situation:

Mike and Tom co-write the song "Sunshine."

Mike is an ASCAP songwriter, Tom is a BMI songwriter.

Mike self-publishers on ASCAP.

Mike and Tom's songwriting and publishing splits are both 50/50.

Mike registers "Sunshine" under his publishing company on ASCAP (songwriter/publisher split is detailed)

Tom registers "Sunshine" as a songwriter on BMI (songwriter/publisher split is detailed -- Mike is the publisher)

How does this work out?

:idk:

I would guess that the two PRO's will split proceeds, since the publisher is in agreement, and both authors have legitmate rights to the material.

I'm not sure how this would work ...anyone?

I think, though, that it would make sense to keep the registration under one PRO [for simplicity]; as the publishing is under the ASCAP member, it would seem to be more logical to administer the song via ASCAP.
