Members flatfinger Posted March 17, 2011 Members Posted March 17, 2011 That radiocabeza is seling the new release sans the "pay what you want " scheme ...... Have any of the new music buisness guru's who extolled the virtues of that approach ponied up to the table to eat some humble pie ??? Think about it ........ .
Moderators daddymack Posted March 17, 2011 Moderators Posted March 17, 2011 nope. didn't notice...but, honestly we all knew this was destined to be a failed experiment, despite all the ballyhoo...
Moderators BATCAT Posted March 17, 2011 Moderators Posted March 17, 2011 Was Radiohead ever actually "extolling the virtues" of a "pay what you want" release? I seem to remember them saying stuff along the lines of "this is an experiment to see what happens, and we're fully aware that we're able to do this because of our position." My memory could be off, though, it's been a long time.
Members richardmac Posted March 17, 2011 Members Posted March 17, 2011 Nah, I think you're right Actionsquid. I think they just said "What the hell, we'll try this." It's the new music biz gurus who picked up the idea and told us about it a million times. I don't think that Radiohead's idea to go traditional with this new CD means anything other than the fact that they think they'll make more money by just selling it normally. Which is a shame, because I'd love to see them try it again. I think the percentage of people paying no money would be significantly higher this time. Won't matter anyway, because that thing will be all over the BitTorrent universe. But they'll still have plenty of fans who will pay to support the band.
