What's the difference between normal Gretsch & Electromatic?

Apart from the obvious difference in price, what else differs between normal Gretsch & Electromatic models?

I assume the Electromatic are made in Korea or somewhere like that.

Is it comparable to how Gibson have cheaper Epiphone Les Pauls that just use cheaper materials and parts?

I'm considering a Gretsch in the future and would like to find out more.

Thanks

The Electromatics are made in Korea (some perhaps in China?) while the top-of-the-line Gretsches are made in Japan. There is almost certainly some variance in part quality as well. You'll see some Electromatics described as having "hardwood" bodies. Never a good sign if they're not gonna specify WHAT hardwood.

The Electromatic Hollow Body models are made in Korea. Although I've heard Internet speculation that some are made in China, I've never seen one. I don't know if this is just Internet lore or fact.

Mine is a post-FMIC guitar, made in Korea.
