Members GZsound
So I'm reading an interview with the guy who recorded a ton of Ray Charles and when asked what mic he used he said normally an ADK Area 51 TT. Well.. I start looking at ADK mics and find an A51, but no Area 51. Anyone familiar with ADK mics that might know what the difference is? The A 51 seems like a really inexpensive mic and I can't imagine it is the same as the Area 51. Anyone?
Members elamberth
Look under "TT" on the ADK website. You'll find it there. List is about $1600, but I have seen it for about $1000. Maybe it's less out there somewhere.

Members GZsound
Thanks guys.. It sounds like an interesting mic. Nine switchable patterns? The article on Ray Charles was pretty interesting. It appears he didn't like outboard mic preamps and instead preferred the "good enough" sound of the console pre's. And that ADK mic was the one he preferred over any other.
Members Warhead
It's a pretty sparkly sounding mic, clean-ish for the most part. It works well on a lot of stuff actually. War
