ok yes to say it upfront this is a "what should i do with my money" thread.

here is my basic idea of what is going on. i have gotten into recording a lot in the last year and find that i can make a relitvly good mix for what my equiptment allows. i started out as a guitar player and have a resonable collection of guitars to choose from (epiphone lp custom with bareknuckle pups, 2 fender teles one with seymour duncans, a gibson sg junior from 67, an epi casino, and a few crapish acoustics. i have a fender deville and a deluxe reverb in the amp department and a few pedals including a tubescreamer and dunlop wha.) now the issue here is that i am not satisfied with my acoustics, i am looking to buy a decent-nice acoustic guitar. depending on how long i want to save i can go from a tak for 800- a gibson j45.

in the recording dept i am thinking about few things, but you must be aware of this first: i am in a band and we are looking to have our first full album out this summer. i was thinking of recording the album at my house and everything being done with me and engineer/producer as well, but i am not adiqutly setup for recording a band (i still haven't bought a firepod). so i was thinking of getting my cousin to record us. he has a full priject studio in his basement and can get good sounding stuff. now this might seem like the obios way to go but there are problems like when we can record. we want to have this thing out by the end of june/ early july, and he is pretty busy and we all have jobs during the day so we would probably have to setup one weekend soon and record 12 songs in 2-3 days, which isn't a huge problem we know it can be done if we stay on task. but i can't decide what to do.

#1 get monitors for 4-500$

#2 get cheaper monitors and get a few mics (i currently have 2 at2020 for drum oh and an apex 210 for guitar cabs and vocals)

#3 spend money on getting cds duplicated.

#4 save up to buy a nice acoustic

if i go with #1 or 2 then i can record at my house with no time issues and i can have the pleasure of mixing everything to my specs but if i spend my money on recording then i won't hav emoney to get the cds made.

if i go #3 then the record might not be done in time and i won't have the fun i would mixing, but people would still get to hear it.

if i go #4 then i will have a great sounding guitar to play on a records that won't get printed but i will feel good about how they sound.

basicaly what i'm asking is what would you do? i hate having to make desicions like this but my band just says listens and never says what they want done. it's a curse and a blessing but i hate having to come up with all our gigs and songs and even designing the album stuff. but thats what ye get for working with vagabonds
