Members Khem1cal Posted October 29, 2010 Members Posted October 29, 2010 anyone have a good template for these? I just want it to basically state(cut & dry). I'm paying you to do "x-amount" of songs, You're being paid, You own no rights now or in the future when I blow up and make billions....Ok that'll never happen, but I don't want ppl coming out of the woodwork later down the road if the album has any success. All profits= My profits. I'm just crappy with legal terminology, and can't afford to pay an my local entertainment lawyer the kinda scratch he's asking for. he's really full of himself and thought I should pay him just for inquiring about having him do it.
Members Kramerguy Posted October 29, 2010 Members Posted October 29, 2010 Hmm I would think that it would be easy to goggle that- otherwise, I think entertainment lawyers will give you a 'common' one that you can alter to fit for about $50. It's worth it, more of a contract than just a standard release, more iron clad and harder to dispute later. Also, the studio might have some generic release forms.

If only, dude wants $500 to write one up I am googling and binging for templates too, but i'm really uneducated in this area and not sure which one is the best in case of future legal disputes. Which I doubt will happen, but I want to make sure.

The lawyer shouldn't need to "draw one up" that's a crock- He would only need to mildly edit an existing one. Find another lawyer, $500 is criminal.
Members Khem1cal Posted October 29, 2010 Author Members Posted October 29, 2010 Alright well I called another guy just now and he is saying $100...Is that fair or is that still too high?
Members Inazone Posted October 29, 2010 Members Posted October 29, 2010 My way of thinking is this: How many people will you contact, over what span of time, before the "extra" $50 is worth it? I'd take it for $100 unless you absolutely aren't in any hurry. I personally get sick of playing phone/email tag, and can think of a lot of things I'd rather be doing. (I'm still trying to educate my wife on the value of time, and why convenience is usually worth the cost.)
Members Kramerguy Posted October 29, 2010 Members Posted October 29, 2010 I agree, $100 is not that much, get it done and move to the next phase-
