Members gismo recording Posted August 19, 2010 Members Posted August 19, 2010 I'm working with a singer/guitarist that is looking to release a CD containing 7 original songs and 10 covers. In investigating licensing fees, it looks like it would cost $900 just for licensing fees if we made 1000 CD's. Has anyone else put out a CD with cover songs and did you pay the full price for licensing fees? Is the solution to only offer it for download so you only pay fees on the songs that were actually downloaded?

The plan now is to only print 500 CD's. We get a break on the CD duplication costs if we make 1000 but no break on the licensing fees.
