Members rhythminmind
After purchasing a console for my home setup I was wanting to add more D/A conversion to my Dual Lynx L22 / LS-AES setup. I grabbed an 888/24 off the shelf for the hell of it. I was surprised how well it was sounding & stood-up well against the Lynx. So i decided to analyze it's performance. I played various content out both the L22 & 888 @ 24/48k & recorded it back in to analyze. Besides a slightly higher noise floor & extreme high end roll off, The 888 performs really well as an D/A. I haven't found any holes or peaks & the transient response seems fine. Can't always believe the forum hype. I made a video of the results & uploaded the recorded source file. Phil O'Keefe
Very interesting... thanks for posting that. So, are you planning on using the 888|24 as additional I/O on your system?
Members rhythminmind
Yes i'm using the 888 for additional outputs. I'm mixing largely OTB.
Phil O'Keefe
As long as you're running 44.1 or 48 kHz, I don't see any reason not to - and they're significantly cheaper on the used market than the 96 or 192 I/O units, Lynx, etc...
Members rhythminmind
Yeah it does kill 96k. But i'm working @ 48k 98% of the time as it is. Having 32 channels of my SSL duende has more sonic benefit then running @ 96k for me.. But i will say 888/24's work great as stand alone D/A's for my Lynx cards. Phil O'Keefe
The Duende really is nice, isn't it? Are you running a HD system? Going to jump to PT 8 when it's released?
Members rhythminmind
Yeah the duende is great. It's a must for my drum mix. I moved from Protools to Sonar 8 with 2 Lynx L22's & the LS-AES to hook up the 888's
