Members gnr2391 Posted July 22, 2010 Members Posted July 22, 2010 I am starting a band that could best be described as hard rock with a hint of other random stuff like thrash metal here and there, as well as klezmer at other times, based on everything I have written already. I know that New York is not the best place for a hard rock band. I am thinking about relocating to either L.A, Austin, or NOLA for going somewhere with my music, where blues-based/ alternative influenced stuff seems to be a little more popular. Does anyone have a good idea about where is a good place to make it? Thanks a ton everyone!
Moderators daddymack Posted July 22, 2010 Moderators Posted July 22, 2010 trust me, stay where you are...New York? There is not enough $ to be made playing in SoCal... few bands manage to survive at all.Austin and NOLA are band magnets as well...going there will just set you to competing with more bands. The grass is always greener...over the septic tank.

Members Temple of Light Posted July 23, 2010 Members Posted July 23, 2010 Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Chicago, and NYC all have happening music scenes, I'd stay away from LA, you'll just be ignored or swallowed whole and spit back out again...
Members JulyRed Posted July 23, 2010 Members Posted July 23, 2010 I think, that it's better to start from small cities. In large there are a lot of bands, it will be hard to light there.
Members Rick Derman Posted August 8, 2010 Members Posted August 8, 2010 I'm over in Berlin, Germany and it totally sucks for rock! I'm a singer songwriter with a great drummer + we're having the hardest time just finding a bass player. www.thepunch.eu
