Members Silent Heart Posted June 24, 2010 Members Posted June 24, 2010 I don't know where I've been, but I just realized that most major artists now have their entire catalog on MySpace for free, all you have to do is listen to an occasional ad. Did this happen very recently, or have I had my head in the sand for the past five years? Anyways, it strikes me as an excellent idea and it just really feels like this is what the post-Napster recorded music industry is going to look like when the internet dust finally settles. Everything is given to the consumer for free and the consumer just has to tolerate occasional ads, exactly like they do happily with traditional radio and TV. Somehow it makes perfect sense that the internet would follow in the same vein, and yet this was not obvious as recently as a few years ago, at least not to me.
Moderators daddymack Posted June 24, 2010 Moderators Posted June 24, 2010 the 'insert ad' model has been around for a while. And yeah, basically, it is single artist radio, for want of a better term

Unless you were streaming an entire album from a single artist, generally you might not even be aware they are there. The capability has always been there. In many cases, the artist themselves do not manage their media outlets, their labels or their management do...and guess who puts the ads in?
Members Silent Heart Posted June 26, 2010 Author Members Posted June 26, 2010 I guess that makes sense. It's very different from internet radio though, and even different from single artist radio. Now I'm thinking that it's not so convenient for playing on the latest iDroidPhonePod thingy, so I may have been a little premature in my praise of the whole thing.
Members Poker99 Posted June 28, 2010 Members Posted June 28, 2010 Now, I will have to endure both the crappy MySpace player, {censored}ty audio AND ADS?! I'll take the CD, please...

Members GtrProductions Posted July 9, 2010 Members Posted July 9, 2010 The MySpace audio player sounds terrible. It ain't my jukebox!
