Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you have heard of jango.com? It is a radio music streaming site kinda like Pandora. I actually joined them a few months ago as an artist and paid them to play my songs alongside other popular artists. I have gotten some interesting results. I was just wondering if anyone here has had success with them?

I was inclined to agree, but I verified his website...and he is a musician!

Now, to the OP, let me get this straight: You pay this "station" to play your material? Do tehy also sell adspace? are there commercials in among the songs?

Sounds to me like these guys have found the perfect way to make money...by doing nothing but putting up a website...hmmmm...

Jango is legit. I have actually heard good things. I think there is a digital music distributor that offers a package including gauranteed air play on Jango. The name of that distributor is escaping me at the moment. When I remember, I will come back and post it.

Not much different than radio when you think about it.

Hi Poker99,

You know, after posting my original post, I actually thought it did kinda look like spam! But I'm not a spammer......just an aspiring artist trying to make sure he ain't being scammed haha!

Thank you for your replies. I have been getting pretty cool results, but I don't know how long I should keep paying for them to keep playing my songs. I do get quite a lot of people who become my "fans" but I'm just not sure where to take it from here.

Any experience (good and bad) from anyone who has joined jango would be welcome!

Thanks!

I got some play credits on Jango by joining another website. I'll start a campaign and get back to you with the results... If I can find the time.

I got some free credits on Jango after being involved in a couple of compilation CDs a couple years ago. My songs got some plays and my band got a few "fans" (by Jango's definition) but nobody I know has even heard of it. I decided not to buy any song credits, knowing that my stuff is already on Pandora.

well its the same problem for everyone...

My campaign is done... I've got a bunch of new fans, but that's it. They just "liked" the song, it doesn't mean they will buy a CD or anything like that. In fact they won't.

I emailed them to say thanks and to send them my band's website... I'm not expecting much.

I wouldn't pay for Jango airplay...

Just posted this on another page actually:

I signed up to Jango and seem to be getting a decent response...but can someone help me with a few questions?

Today (day 2) my stats are:

Plays 441

Paid 430

Fans 19

Profile views 5

This seems ok to me given the level of investment and is actually about expectation, as the website says expect 30 fans per 1,000 plays ... but ... can anyone tell me:

1) What constitutes a fan? How does someone need to interact with the song in order to do that? And what does it mean for the future of that fan and the songs?

2) A like means they clicked a smiley face (like/love)? Is that it or does it mean more than that?

1. Tricky question. They try to explain this on the website, and it changes from time to time.

2. Same answer from above.

Jango is pretty cool, and it works for what it is. Don't expect any sales. We view it as another means for exposure, and another way to boost our egos. It does a great job at both. We only have a few of our songs on there, and we get a lot of comments and messages suggesting they would like to hear more. Of course, that makes us think "buy the damn CD" but it won't happen. We have thousands of plays on there and no direct sales.

For some numbers: over half of our "fans" are NOT from the US. We are getting about 80 fans per 1000 plays.

After our first couple of hundred fans, we stopped paying. We hoped to break even, but I don't see how that would be possible on there. We still get new fans and comments everyday. So, at this point, it is kind of a free promo tool. We login once a week to respond to messages and thank those that made a comment. We also spend our free plays from the previous week. Otherwise, we just let it do its thing.
