Phil O'Keefe
I just got a PM from another recording related site warning me not to visit gearslutz - apparently they've been hacked. Here's a copy of the PM I was sent by recording.org: Be WARNED! not to even attempt to visit Gearslutz right now. This is very unfortunate but they have been hacked by a P O R N ring. If you go there, do not use yourr studio computer. More explained here: http://recording.org/studio-lounge/52204-gearutz-hacked.html Jules is a good guy, and I'm sorry to hear about this. Mojo sent. In the meantime, until he gets it all sorted out, I would stay off Gearslutz.
Members CME
I saw this earlier, and I've only checked on my phone, but everytime I do everything seems normal. I'm not saying it's in anyway safe to go there, just not sure why I don't see anything abnormal. FWIW I am keeping any computer far away from there until I here the coast is clear. Moderators MrKnobs Posted March 4, 2012 Moderators Share Posted March 4, 2012 They got it sorted. It was a one day exploit, no viruses involved, object of the exploit was to get click revenue for porn sites. All over, all safe. There's a note explaining it in detail when you get on gearslutz. Members Alndln2
I remember some forum members there complaining about the site name, complaining that they couldn't log on at their work place becauses their bosses assumed it was a porn site and blocked it. That doesn't surprise me. One of the regulars over on HCEF is in a band named Whores. Not "The Whores" - just "Whores." Good band too... but anyway, when Joe Blow goes to their Facebook page and clicks on "Like", Facebook sends out an announcement to his friends saying that "Joe Blow Likes Whores." I imagine more than a few guys have had to talk fast to explain that one to their wives or girlfriends.

Most forumites obsession with gear is just as distracting from an employers perspective.
Members lefort_1
If it was a russian ring, focused on faux Harry Potter actress pr0n, then the same thing happened very recently to the Harmony Guitars website I hang out at. ...I mean, pr0n aint all bad, but site-hackers deserve to be gutted with dull butterknives.
