Waves wup again? Bundle hatred

I like the Waves products, but i am going through another Protools upgrade to 10 and i am frustrated. It is a good product, but Massey makes some great stuff. I don't need all the bundled stuff

I have lot's of stuff recorded with waves REN EQ and REN comp. These are great tools! My major client likes Massey better. I don't think they are any better quality but i get his point. Break down WUP will be $200 and lasts a year. I get that these guys have to eat too. I have a very well appointed project studio, but is this a better spend than say that stereo cloud lifter I want?

I've had the Waves Platinum bundle for many years (version 5.xx). Never WUP'ed it. When I upgraded from PTLE 7.3 to PT Native 10 late last year, I paid the $200 WUP fee to get Waves ver 9.xx. No big deal. You don't have to pay the WUP fee each year. I used Waves ver 5.xx for about 4-5 years with no WUP fee.

As a former software support specialist, I guess i have been brainwashed by developers pushing "upgrade to the latest" as the stock answer for anything that you don't like. I bought an Eleven rack and it came with Protools 10. I was on windows XP and Protools le 8.05, it took like 5 minutes to load, but was fairly reliable after that. It's only money right? and i am helping the economy:wave:

Fwiw I bought my bundle at v7. Luckily I was in wup when v8 came out. So I haven't paid it yet and I'm still working fine. However if I do upgrade I'll get some extra plug-ins that are now in the bundle. So really it's not too bad. And if I had the cash they've got a good deal to upgrade to diamond right now. Which would give me a year of wup and upgrade me to v9. So don't get in a hurry to wup unless you have to for compatibility reasons. And then consider your upgrade options. ;)

Oh and also shop around. You can save at least 10% off the $200 through some dealers.
