Phil O'Keefe
http://www.avid.com/US/press-room/PTNative-Thunderbolt MY hope is that this will be similar to what they did with HDX - first they announced HD Native, then the improved HDX cards / systems came out a bit later. IOW, I am hoping they'll do a HDX with processing in a external unit with Thunderbolt. I'd also really like to see the backside of that Thunderbolt unit. At the bare minimum, I hope it has two thunderbolt ports so you can still chain monitors and HDDs.
Phil O'Keefe
One potentially significant omission - there's no second Thunderbolt port on it for daisy chaining. Sure, if you have a Thunderbolt HDD, you probably are okay - just connect the Avid unit to the "thru" port on the HDD. But what if you have an external HDD and a monitor with a Mini Display Port to Thunderbolt adapter that you want to use simultaneously? IMHO, all Thunderbolt devices should have a second port on them. There's really no reason not to, and it severely restricts daisy chaining if they don't. Especially since there are no Thunderbolt -> multiple Thunderbolt 'hubs" on the market.
Members CME
I concur. While I'm not currently in the market for something like the Thunderbolt HD/native box, I do try and keep up. Not having a second port was a huge oversight. Made me pretty much scratch it off any "buy when I have lots of extra cash list" I might have put it on.
