GT is seeking a staff person to head up the Pro Audio department. This person would be head of sales in this area and interface with performers, musicians, studio folks, etc. You need to be technical in nature and have a handle on recording and an understanding of microphones, preamps, compressors, and most other aspects of the recording process, sound reinforcement process etc.

If you are interested, please send a resume to GT's General Manager; ops@groovetubes.com

Please have a phone contact in your resume so Steve Good (GM at GT) can call you.

Would that be a USB or FireWire interface?

Also, what sort of latency would be tolerated in this position?

Actually .... with most of the recording systems we have here either USB or Firewire works.

On Latency .... we expect you to respond to customer or client needs the same day the issue comes up and as close to "right now" as possible. Latency has a target of a few minutes to an hour at the most.

Wow! Wish I had the sales background. I'm much better in the people skills and sharing information than closing deals.

And I've discovered I know a lot less than I thought I knew about tubes after listening to conversations beteen you, Caevan and others.

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone!

Actually - Steve (GM at GT) said that personality comes first and he can teach many of the technical aspects to the right person. As far as the sales part of it, there is a sales staff that would be involved too. This job is more of the technical interface I believe.

Nashville to LA... Hmmm

Being from L.A. I would not have to think long at all about relocating to Nashville! Then again, maybe some people love meeting L.A. people on a freeway every day .... where it takes 45 minutes to drive 5 miles!

Nashville has a lot of aspects which are way above L.A. Oh well.... nothing is ever perfect I guess.

It does sound tempting doesn't it...

But I think I found a really good fit at my current place of employment.

Which feels really weird after wanting to leave my last job for about three or four years!

Neil, think real hard about moving to LA. Hey maybe we could swap? I'd love to get out of Southern California...what's the market like in Nashville lately?

You silly goose! I was just funnin. You wrote that the person had to interface with performers, musicians, studio folks, etc. and I asked what kind of interface that person had to have. See, I have a FireWire interface built into my bellybutton, but if your artists required someone with USB, that pretty much rules me out.

Oh well.

Another internet joke crashes and burns. Or maybe, more likely, it

Myles - I've only been to LA a few times, and not since 1986, but I have a fair idea of the surface differences between there and Nashville. If this were to work, I'd probably have to visit my family in Nashville when I could. But how different would that be from touring? (Which Denise would have me doing again, in a minute, were it not for the lack of financial stability. I never managed to reach the point Drew's at. Besides, he has a side business.)

Housing wouldn't be a problem.. Between grandma in Woodland Hills, other aunts, uncles and cousins all over the LA area, and the love of forumites in the area (Hint, hint, Phil, Jeff, (the list goes on and on) I could work something out. ;)

As in housing or music? The housing market is booming, especially south of the city, in border communities like Brentwood and Franklin. Far enough away to be their own centers, but near enough to hit Nashville in 15 - 30 min. Maybe double that at the worst rush hours. Hardly noticable to an LA native, huh? I'd be worried you'd drive right past Nashville thinking, "That can't be it.. We got here way to quickly! :D

As for music, it's also on the upswing.. depending who you are. Nashville is probably just as saturated , if not moreso, than LA with studios, project and professional. But it's almost all aimed at music. You won't find a lot of film/video post houses here.

I'm quite sure your new venture, audio for theater, offers far more possibilities in LA. Nashville has the Tenn. Rep. Company and some regional theater, but not like big cities such as LA, let alone NY or Chicago.

This is a great market to be a live mixer in, if you have good contacts. MD/Clair is a field office for Clair Bros, run by John McBride (That's Mr. Martina McBride), Garth Brooks' longtime live mixer. Several other regional sound companies reside here. The issue (as with every music market) is the sheer number of mixers trying to break in and stay working in a small area. It is a friendly town to work in, as a tech.

Nashville is very nice. But you better like the humidity and be a very defensive driver. (The latter of which should be second nature to an LA denizen. ;) )

I was pretty set on moving to Nashville a few years ago, but then then music industry started to slow down, and I heard Nashville is kinda flooded with mix guys, so I stayed in town.

I gotta get out of California. I do not want to raise my kids here.

Mike, find out who you know who's made the leap. I'd be happy to help, but realistically, I haven't found my own niche. If you scour your rolodex (Or pda, computer, etc. :D ) I'll bet you find a few people who moved to Nashville when you weren't looking. Hopefully they left a forwarding number. ;)

Myles, a little bird (or weasel ;) ) told me that my name came up in regards to this position. As I told that other person, I was extremely flattered to even be mentioned... but I don't think I could handle the daily drive to the valley, and I am really happy where I'm at right now. But please tell Steve that I was extremely flattered to be mentioned. :o

I'll keep my ears open... and if you'd like to cross post this over on The Studio Trenches forum, you can feel free to do so with my blessings. :)

Probably for the best you're passing on this, given your obvious penchant for drinking excessively at any time of day. ;):D (K-i-d-d-i-n-g...)

I can never keep track of who has talked to who!

Myles sez, "GT is seeking a staff person to head up the Pro Audio department. This person would be head of sales in this area..."

Tell Aspen what he *really* wants/needs is a Marketing Guy with Tech chops to do this. Most Marketing Weasels can sell, but not all Sales Weasels can market. :)

Had he been looking a year ago, before I was otherwise committed, he might have talked me into it. :D

Tell Aspen, Rick B, Jimmy W, Steve G and all the boys "howdy" from The Great Baldini.

BTW - how ARE the sales of the lovely ViPre and Glory Comp going?

Best,

His Esteemed Baldness

(Now Marketing Ferret over at Lexicon)

They're illegal here in Cali, so you'd better keep your bald ass in Utah for awhile (it is Utah, right?).

Me too. No SNAMM for moi, but I'll be at NYC AES.

And (getting back on topic) so will Groove Tubes, hopefully with their new Pro Audio Sales Czar!
