Members phaeton Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 But thanks to them talking to our own illustrious Mr. Klopmeyer...they rethought their position. So... they're going to a different part of LA, or the whole thing is off? What shall happen next, mahfriend? P.S. Thanks Jeff... though you may want to edit your phone # out of an inet forum.
Members Ani Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Ted, I'll keep both you and the girls in my prayers. Everything is going to be okay Dad, and keep it mind that what isn't meant to be won't happen... what "IS" meant to be will reveal itself soon enough. As others have chimed in, if you need to, don't hesitate to call. You know that I'm within a shouts distance of the airport, and within a 45 minute drive out your way if you need for me to provide any transportation... Maybe to pick the girls up if I'm home and you're working or something like that; I'm here for you, Deb, or any of the kids. I haven't had a chance to talk to Drew since this all came up; how do the boys and Deb feel about Lindsay's decision to explore? Just try to keep your wits and make sure Lindsay is equipped with some of the phone numbers of folks here on the forums that have offered help. Also tell her that, in many places, if she runs into problems... dialing 911 does not require money at a pay phone. At least that stands true in most areas of Kansas City; I don't know about elsewhere. Right now I'm involved in some major... MAJOR changes around the house as far as equipment goes and I don't have my gear all connected to one another temporarily. Whenever I get everything situated I'll record that song I wrote for the two of you... (not anytime in the immediate future, but hopefully before winter sets in) I'm in the process of upgrading my electrical service from 100 amps to 200 amps. Once I get everything switched over, then I get to move on into the planned studio area with the wiring. Amanda heard me playing and singing it this morning and really liked it. It was a bit awkward when she asked if I had written the song about her and her daddy... I told her it was about you and Lindsay but I'd write another one just for her.
Members Ani Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Oh Yeah, and if you haven't already done so; invest immediately in a family plan cellular phone package prior to her leaving and equip her with a phone to stay in contact with you. Make sure to get one with nationwide coverage and make sure she knows not to use it ruthlessly. This could offer some serious Peace of Mind in knowing that you have some sort of contact with her.... and that she can call you if she has an emergency.
Members Jotown Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Originally posted by Tedster THANKS JEFFF!!! Jeff...tha man. But thanks to them talking to our own illustrious Mr. Klopmeyer...they rethought their position. So Tedster; does that mean the girls are "NOT" going to LA after all?
Members Mr. Donovan Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Jotown, I think what Tedster ment is that the girls decided not to move to the ghetto.
Members Tedster Posted August 17, 2005 Author Members Posted August 17, 2005 You're right, Mr. D. They were going to sneak off, leave without anything but a note. No cell phone, no NOTHING...just to "prove" that they could do it on their own. They would have died. Or worse. Their brother, Andrew, "ratted them out". He saved their lives by doing so. I found out, talked to Lindsay. Got an address where they were planning to move. Did a "mapquest". Oh God. Thanks to Jeff "da Weasel" Klopmeyer, I called him. Out of him confirming my worst fears, he talked to Lindsay, and scared the {censored} out of her. I also talked to Lee (a former LA resident)...and she told Lindsay the same thing. I couldn't tell her anything...she wouldn't listen to me. Anything I said was just a lie to keep her from going. But, when Jeff and Lee said the same thing, it was different. I was prepared to take drastic measures to prevent them going, because I felt their personal safety was at high risk. But, everything calmed down. We talked. They're on their way to LA now, where they'll check in to a nice, safe hotel. Tomorrow, Deb (Mrs. Tedster) will fly there, rent a car, and help them find a decent place, and we'll see where it goes from there. Jeff...bro...you saved some lives. I owe you big time. I feel so much better. But I do need some sleep. Thanks to everyone!!!
Members PBBPaul Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Thank God. This news makes me very happy Ted. I can only imagine the sigh of relief coming out of you.
Members Base Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Wow, serious demonstration of the power of the forum community!!!! Really glad the situation has improved and you're feeling better Ted. Kudo's to everyone else who helped out too
Members Tedster Posted August 17, 2005 Author Members Posted August 17, 2005 This is a good thing we have here. A very good thing. I don't know what else to say...
Members phaeton Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Yeah really, good job Lee and Jeff... Good job Tedster too, even though all your efforts were falling on deaf ears... So far it looks like they're starting off onto a better foot, and whether they see through to the end of the dream or not at least they have a better shot at it now. We may see their names in lights after all Their brother, Andrew, "ratted them out". He saved their lives by doing so. I found out, talked to Lindsay. Got an address where they were planning to move. Did a "mapquest". Thank the lucky stars for Andrew. Is there someone they knew out in there that they were going to meet up with, or were they just going to walk into the place cold?
Members fantasticsound Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Absolutely, Base. When real and virtual worlds collide, it doesn't have to be a story in the paper of an internet romance gone well or bad. Here's to the power of reaching out and connecting with people all over the world. In just the past few months Ted has travelled overseas but been met by friendly, familiar faces he'd never met before and had a dramatic, life changing event softened by assistance from two people hundreds of miles and seveal states away, in either direction. He probably wouldn't have had personal resources in or about LA without the ongoing relationships fostered at the SSS. Thanks, Craig, for providing a place where such relationships can thrive.
Members Tedster Posted August 17, 2005 Author Members Posted August 17, 2005 Yes indeedy! Three cheers for Mr. Moderator!!!
Members LiveMusic Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Those girls been watching too much t.v. Man, couldn't they have chosen Cleveland? Yikes, you better be workin' overtime, Tedster. Hey, they should make a t.v. show of this! LINDSAY AND HOLLY HIT L.A. You could get RICH! You could actually be the star, they'd just be the sidemen. Uh, sidewomen. Uh, sidepersons. The plot would revolve around you, the scared {censored}less father. And it would involve their doing a demo at Phil's place. But along the way, they would find it seemingly impossible to meet the deadline. And from time to time, there would be some shouting and throwing {censored} around. Phil would duck under his desk. And more angst because the deadline can't be met. Much crying and gnashing of teeth. They'd call home, and you'd be sitting in your studio, mixing Tedster masterpieces, unaware of the drama going on out west. But Phil would fill (scuse the pun) you in, rubbing his brow and saying "I just don't think it can be done this quickly, Ted. These girls are very talented but man, what a PITA they are. They keep bumming money from me and half the time, they sleep in my studio and next morning, I have cheetos and beer everywhere." But then, one day, they call home and The Tedster is absolutely smashed. Just toasted. You have your shirt off and you're all sweaty and {censored}, singing your ass off out in the front yard. To your pink flamingos. Then, you just snap. And your solo performance turns violent. You take out your 12-gauge and blast one of the pink {censored}ers to smithereens. You had to let the steam out. But then, in the end, their demo would be made. And it would be incredible. Phil would call in Phil Spector, in all his glory, with six-shooters on each hip, to listen. And he would give it his blessing. And then he and Phil would go look at Phil's gun collection. But while there, talking gun talk, Phil gives Phil, the glorious one, a lecture on using firearms safely. But Phil (the glorius one) isn't listening. He's looking out the window. Suddenly, all hell breaks loose. Phil (the glorious one) is tearing the place apart. Phil (our Phil) looks outside and Ronni Spector is outside letting all the air out of his (Phil, the glorious one) tires and... On to another reality show. But the next season, the two girls are back. To shop their demo, after having struck out in L.A. LINDSAY AND HOLLY HIT NEW YORK (Hope that helps. Ain't America great?)
Members Jeff da Weasel Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 It was my absolute pleasure to be of help. That what friends are for, to coin the old phrase. I certainly view many folks here as much more than pixels on my monitor. Lindsay seems like a very nice, intelligent young woman who was just dealing with a situation where she lacked the knowedge/experience to make the right decision, and almost no one wants to listen to/trust their parents at that stage in life. I sure didn't. Anyway, the area that they were looking at, in the midst of South Central L.A., is one of the worst gang-infested crime zones in the country. It's a living hell where even police don't venture unless they're in massive groups. They weren't very far from where the LA riots were sparked. It's also not far from where a family was killed not long ago for making a wrong turn down an alley into the wrong "territory". I'm supportive of Ted's girl going out and finding her path... but not at the expense of getting killed in the process. The main message I had for her was, "Look, you want to come out here to LA to have some fun, and the one thing you won't find in the most poverty-stricken, crime-ridden neighborhoods is fun." I'm really glad to hear I could help a little, Ted. Tell Lindsay to hang onto my number just in case anything weird comes up. - Jeff

That was exactly my message. You want to have fun, not be dodging bullets and stuff. That's not fun. Thank you all, bless you all...I'm forever in your debt. I just spoke with Lindsay...she's at a nice comfy hotel. Tomorrow, Deb will fly in, and they'll set about seeing what they can come up with. You folks are great! Greater than great! Oh, and you helped more than a little. Your conversations with Lindsay were basically the turning point in this whole episode.
