A year ago, I used Jabber / Exodus. Is that still good? For now, just me and someone else. Is it compatible with other IM services? Or do you recommend something else. For Windows.

I use Gaim for Linux, under Windoze I use Trillian - it works with all the major IM networks and in general, I like the interface and features.

Gaim will run under Windows, but I've always been fine with Trillian so never bothered installing Gaim... you can try it and compare though.

I've been using Trillian for years... sometimes it gets a little bugged up when the IM services change their programming, but for simple text messaging, it works great. It runs all the IM services in a single window, so I can talk to people that have AIM, Yahoo, MSN, irc or whatever...

I suggest Trillian as well. There's a free version with basic IM stuff, and the full bore paid version with alot of the bells and whistles included. Go with the free one first, of course...

I installed it but now what? What would I be connecting to? Is there a Trillian network?

It has a couple of buttons, one for AIM and one for ICQ that you can 'make a connection.' But I am not on either of those and don't know that I want to be. But I gotta be on something. ;)
