Members KB Gunn Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I am now officially 54 years old. One shy of double nickels. It has been a very boring birthday. Nobody in my family has even said happy birthday to me. I feel so dejected. Why does it depress me? :( :( I was thinking of typing 55 sad faces (one for good luck) but I got tired of it. Way too many birthdays.
Members Tedster Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 KB, NEVER...repeat NEVER allow yourself to tell yourself you're old. I learned my lesson the hard way. I went back to school 10 years after graduating high school. I felt like an old man. I WAS ONLY 28!!! I allowed myself to be suckered into this "Those kids are 18, I'm 28, I'm OVER THE HILL". I wasted four years of my life feeling old. Heck with that. I'm 48 and I'm a kid. And when I'm 54 I'll still be a kid. I'll quit being a kid when they pull the sheet over my face. Happy birthday! You're like 10 years younger than Paul McCartney.
Members blackpig Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Age is just a number. Youth lasts as long as you make the best of it. I'm 44 going on 17 and enjoying every minute. Happy birthday!
Members linwood Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Well... you've been 11 almost five times now. Happy Birthday!!
Members Lee Flier Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Happy birthday KB! And everybody's given you great advice about the "age" thing. Anyhow I don't think of birthdays so much in terms of how old someone is, but more that it's the day you came into the world and therefore always something to be celebrated! Have fun today whatever you do!
Members spokenward Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Happy Birthday! I saw this as a clipping on a professor's office door. IT'S WHAT YOU DO--NOT WHEN YOU DO ITTed Williams, at age 42, slammed a home run in his last official time at bat.Mickey Mantle, age 20, hit 23 home runs his first full year in the major leagues.Golda Meir was 71 when she became Prime Minister of Israel.William Pitt II was 24 when he became Prime minister of Great Britain.George Bernard Shaw was 94 when one of his plays was first produced.Mozart was just seven when his first composition was published. Now how about this? Benjamin Franklin was a newspaper columnist at 16and a framer of the United States Constitution when he was 81.You're never too young or too old if you've got talent.Let's recognize that age has little to do with ability. I had seen the quote before, but I never saw a source - somebody thinks that this is the source. Charles Swindoll, Living Above the Level of Mediocrity, p.104.
Members KB Gunn Posted August 15, 2005 Author Members Posted August 15, 2005 Thanks guys, I really appreciate it:)
Members Super 8 Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Happy B-day, KB! I understand not getting the acknowledgement from your friends and family. Many times I've had a birthday and the only person who sent me a card was my auto insurance agent.....bless him. Don't be depressed, man, enjoy your life. Everyday -at ANY age- is a gift. You may live to be 100, or you may not live past tomorrow. Don't worry about it. Go out and do something you enjoy.
Members Shars Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Happy Birthday matey, have a good day no matter what or how you feel
Phil O'Keefe Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 +1 to what both Lee and Tedster said! Nobody in my family has even said happy birthday to me. I feel so dejected. Why does it depress me? Because that kinda sucks. It would hurt my feelings a bit too if no one remembered my birthday. But look on the bright side - you're getting a lot of love here! I sincerely hope you have a happy birthday - and forget about all that age crap - that only matters to record label execs who only want to sign "young" bands - and look at the state the major label record industry is in today! Coincidence? I like to think not.. :D

Members KB Gunn Posted August 15, 2005 Author Members Posted August 15, 2005 You guys are all so great! I never thought of us as family, Gus, but I am starting to now. This kind of reminds me of when Sandra Bullock was being encouraged by her web buddies in the movie, The Net. Thanks again for the lifting up. I needed it.

Members phaeton Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 Nobody in my family has even said happy birthday to me. I feel so dejected. Why does it depress me? Happy Birthday. I have 2 things to say: #1) I used to dwell on my age too, but somehow i've found a way to not do that. I forget my own birthday, most of the time, except now i a girlfriend that reminds me in advance. She recently said she can't decide what to get me for my birthday, and was all worked up over it. I suggested a pair of shoes. #2) I recall the pic of you in your avatar. Is that recent? I would have guessed you about 38.

I guess I have a baby face that seems to defy age. Doctors I went to school with all look like old people now. When they see me, they can't believe it. I don't know why I don't look my age, but I sure feel it(bad knees).
