Members Anderton Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 I don't know if it's my "favorite" -- depends on my mood, I guess -- but I was watching the Led Zep DVD the other day and it's pretty damn good. Anyone else got any recommendations?
Members Johnny Storm Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 The NIN DVD is very good. Highly recommended.

Phil O'Keefe Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Tom Dowd And The Language Of Music. Not a "performance DVD", but highly recommended nevertheless.

Members BenOne Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 My favorites are: Beyond the Mind's Eye--it's not a concert DVD, but early 1990s computer animation set to an original soundtrack by Jan Hammer King Crimson--Deja Vrooom--one of the first music DVDs that came out, and still one of the best. You can shift camera angles on some of the songs to see players.
Members The Soundman Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" tour DVD is pretty good
Members Mr. Botch Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 I know they're a Vegas act now, but Blue Man Group still has the most enjoyable DVD I own (over 80 at last count).Honorable mentions to Deja Vrooom, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Santana in Mexico (Rabid just reminded me its title is "Sacred Fire"), and Dream Theater in Tokyo.
Members Rudolf von Hagenwil Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 DVD: Cecilia Bartoli - Vivaldi, Antonio - Viva Vivaldi! That's Music !
Members blue2blue Posted August 15, 2005 Members Posted August 15, 2005 I'm still waiting on the DVD release of Vincent Minelli's 1955 film version of Kismet. When it comes out, it will be my favorite music DVD, guaranteed. Til then, I guess it'd be the 1968 Oliver! (If they bring out a DVD of the 1971 Don Cammell/Nick Roeg Performance (w/ Mick Jagger in the co-lead role), will that count? It's kind of musical. I mean, it's got a bit of performance and a great Jack Nietsche soundtrack.) If you mean straight performance videos -- I've never even rented or seen one.

Members blue2blue Posted August 16, 2005 Members Posted August 16, 2005 Ah yeah, Fantasia's a good one -- at least as long as it's the original and not one of those horrid repackaging/updating/screwing up things Disney does to it every 5 or 10 years? Remember when -- with big fanfare -- they 'went digital' with it, hiring some hack studio orchestra to 'rerecord' the original parts? WTF were they thinking? Uh, yeah, my Caruso record's kinda scratchy, I want to get the updated version with Pavrotti singing his part instead... morons. I never saw the 'millenium version' or whatever it was, with new animation and old, politically incorrect sequences removed. But, you know, the only thing sadder than some of the strange racial multi-tiered social systems of the past is the fact that we keep trying to sanitize and whitewash our pop culture history. Sure, every single time I watch "White Christmas" I have to turn it off in the middle in newly rediscovered revulsion at the not-hateful-but-still-woefully-insulting Lincoln's Birthday sequence. But, you know, it was a thing of its time and it's important to remember how things were... even if it proves to be a showstopper and a joykiller. (Hell, I never liked that movie that well anyhow. It doesn't have a lot of snap and it doesn't swing too hard, at all. Still, it's hard to pass up Astaire and Crosby. Someday, maybe I'll even see the end and find out which one gets the girl.)
Members Bob Keelan Posted August 16, 2005 Members Posted August 16, 2005 Oh jeez Craig. I think I buy more DVDs than CDs these days. Los Lobos live at the Fillmore An Evening with the Dixie Chicks Springsteen Live in Barcelona Alice in Chains Unplugged John Fogerty Premonition Alison Krause + Union Station Live Concert for George Lucinda Williams Live from Austin Tx It's all good!

Members BLAblablah Posted August 16, 2005 Members Posted August 16, 2005 I've collected a few DVD concert videos, but my favorite video is an amazing VHS copy of a performance by Mike Oldfield doing his Tubular Bells sequel performed live years ago...I still keep wishing for it to be released on DVD. I originally sent a contribution to the local PBS afiliate to get the VHS. But I'm also crazy about the Blue Man Group DVD (where do you buy those PVC instruments? ), and Bela Fleck...what can you say? Amazing guy! Especially love seeing him live with the Flecktones. Barry
Members BLAblablah Posted August 16, 2005 Members Posted August 16, 2005 Guess I didn't scroll down far enough, or else I type really slow (yeah...I think it's that), but there are so many good ones mentioned...some that I have, and some I've only seen, on like Direct TV for instance. But Fantasia was by far the first Music-ish thing to ever really blow me away when I was really young...and yes, I now have the DVD. Way ahead of it's time, me-thinks. I can only imagine the reaction of some of the original viewers! Also, I still like to dig out "Yellow Submarine" sometimes....Barry
