Apparently, it has been completely re-recorded. Jon Brion's work, prominent in the leaked songs, has been dumped. Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent) produced the new versions.

I'm a little concerned about the "re-working" with a different producer though.... I guess I'll wait and see...

I think she's way hawt, and i like that she doesn't sing about dumb {censored}. The few songs i've heard of hers seem to have some clout to them.

 

Sorta along the same lines, the Violent Femmes have about 4 or 5 albums in the can that their label has refused to release over the last 12-15 years. They've recently bought the rights to them from their label and they'll start releasing them soon.

So basically the hundred grand spent at the begining was a waste of cash/time, and here artistic vision is so clear that she needed to bring in a stranger to fix the mess and give it a more contemporay spin to make the suits happy.

I'm just sorry Fiona had to go through all that {censored}, she's a truly talented woman. I saw her live right after her first album hit, and she is damn good. Damn good.

The truth behind the shelving of the first version is impossible to discern at this point. There is plenty of speculation in various online forums as to blame--Fiona? Sony? Jon?

 

I guess the two significant points are:

 

1) Sony (Epic) is releasing an album they are happy with;

 

2) Fiona was recently seen performing at Largo, in Los Angeles. With Jon Brion, of course.
