Members LiveMusic Posted August 18, 2005 Members Posted August 18, 2005 This makes me sick to my stomach and I'm not even Leonard. He's been (EDIT: "allegedly") taken for a ride by his most trusted. Although long, a very good article. SOURCE Also... Cohen's Lifestyle Not Lavish
Members thankyou Posted August 18, 2005 Members Posted August 18, 2005 This sucks. I can see how someone could take advantage of an individual who was not very connected with material acquisition. There are, however, always stories within stories. People create their own hell with ambition and greed. Henry
Members jabney Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 That is so wrong. People who prey on songwriters are perhaps the lowest form of scum I can imagine. Of course being down to your last $150,000 at age 70 probably beats being $7,500 in the hole at age 60 :-) but still. best, John
Members Bunker Buster Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 Leonard Cohen = Zen buddhist ? Neal Greenberg = Tibetan buddhist ? That's some typical buddhist names right there.
Members blue2blue Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 You get a feel for what's going on in the main story -- but if you have any doubts remaining, the personal testimony of writer Brian Johnson as to Cohen's actual lifestyle seems to seal the deal: http://www.macleans.ca/culture/music/article.jsp?content=20050822_110882_110882 And it's certainly reassuring to read Cohen's public comments about his troubles. It seems clear he's got his head on straight and we'll be hearing no whining as he goes back to work at 70 to provide for his twighlight years. With regard to the particulars, it looks like they'll be exposed as this all plays out in court. But it's got to be hard for anyone aquainted with Cohen's statements and demeanor over his career, his works, even the email he reportedly sent to his former financial manager, to believe the bizarrely recounted accusations by his financial manager. And his former business manager appears clearly to be in crash and burn mode. I think the most shocking thing I read -- given that such a thing was happening at all -- is that Leonard Cohen has a TV in his bedroom.
Members LiveMusic Posted August 19, 2005 Author Members Posted August 19, 2005 This is one VERY WEIRD saga. My, oh, my, is this WEIRD. I hope Leonard comes out okay. I promise, I will buy a record! Put it out, I will BUY.

Well, Tibetan Buddhism is very old, and obviously rooted in the Tibetan culture, but Zen is a rather different beast, a modern and somewhat crosscultural approach to timeless teachings.
