I hope I'm not making a double post, but Vassar passed away a few days ago, and I just have to say.... I loved that man, and I loved the way he played. He was good friends, with a friend of mine Buddy Cage, and we're all going to miss Vassar. What a huge talent, and what a great career he had.

He was one of the guys that bridged the world between rock, and bluegrass. Vassar was there during all that. Vassar played with a lot, a lot, of people, and was a very cool guy.

Vassar we hardly knew ya.

He was a great player, and I'm told, a true gentleman.

I loved the fact that he would mix it up with some of the country-loving hippie rockers at a time when many country musicians turned their noses up at the (then) young folks.

He'll surely be missed.

Thanks kylen. Vassar had been in the hospital for about 6 weeks now, and we knew this was coming, but it still just hit me bad. Damn......

So sad to hear of his passing. Wewus: I don't know your real identity, but between Buddy Cage(Hog Heaven) and Vasser Clements, you were in great company. He was always super in person, and well worth a trip to NYC whenever he played there. He seemed to be a nice, humble person, and could certainly tear it up. RIP

Damn...the first time I heard of Vassar Clements was when I read the credits to Stephen Stills' song "Sing to the Fallen Eagle" (can't remember the exact title)...but itwas a kickass bluegrass song, and Clements fiddled on it.

RIP, Vassar. Play some of them fancy fiddle licks for the Big Feller up yonder!

I first heard Vassar on Old and In the Way back in high school in the mid-70's and I saw him in about 1982 in Davis, CA, with Dan Hicks and Maria Muldaur. It was truly a pleasure to hear him perform.

Vassar came into the National limelight with the recording of Will The Circle Be Unbroken, which he is all over. He became known as a guy who could get along with rockers, but still maintain his own musical integrity. At that time, most of the old school bluegrass, country guys totally eschewed rock music. Not so with Vassar, and the rest is of course history. After WTCBU, I think he always had more work than he wanted.

I never met Vassar myself but I know a few people that have, including Buddy, and they always said he was a very kind, unassuming guy, who loved music. It just feels like the end of an era to me. I'm really going to miss him.
