Members amplayer Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 Who has experience with power supplies for home studio gear? My home has central A/C, and it causes severe power sags when it cycles.I recently had to have my MOTU 828 MK II replaced because it locked up when the A/C cycled on.I purchased an APC SUA1500 (1500 VA) UPS for use with my Mac computer, but I was thinking of getting a separate voltage regulator for my audio equipment.Furman seems to have the most options for this, but the top end stuff that would protect against brown-outs is even more costly than another APC power supply.Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
Members Paully Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 In general, if your experiencing brownouts regularly when the AC cycles, call the power company or an electrician immediately. That is a serious problem. Otherwise, a company named Tripplite makes brownout protectors(power conditioners) that work fine, correcting sags down to about 95 VAC. Good luck, Paul http://www.tripplite.com/products/conditioners/index.cfm
Members amplayer Posted August 19, 2005 Author Members Posted August 19, 2005 Paully,I know this sounds stupid of me, but I just never thought of contacting my electric company. I just dumbly assumed this was my issue. I contacted my power company, and they are sending somebody out today to look at it.Thanks.
Members Robman2 Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 Clean from the power company might require a seperate line installation from the main. Then, Furman and Surgex or higher for controlled delivery. Consumer versions, Monster etc, cost less and do a OK job but are short of the technology which I've had explained to me but my eyes glazed over....realtime clean power filtering and control can run up to $20k for a studio grade set up.
