Members XXX Posted August 21, 2005 Members Posted August 21, 2005 Guitartracks and Protracks 2.2 both will not see my guitarport which is used as the soundcard after I installed Acid 5.0 . I have reinstalled guitarport and the cakewalk products still no go .
Members doug osborne Posted August 21, 2005 Members Posted August 21, 2005 Describe "don't work". No sound? No MIDI? Cakewalk products generally run a Wave Profiler before they can use a soundcard - have you run this? After this first-time setup, you can then switch to the WDM or ASIO driver, and all should be well. What does Cakewalk support say?
Members blue2blue Posted August 21, 2005 Members Posted August 21, 2005 I'm not sure the release quality under Sony is as tight as it was under Sonic Foundry. I didn't upgrade my Acid Pro... but I did get the upgrades to Sound Forge and CD-Architect, and each one of them has had signficiant "issues" that I haven't had time to explore properly (since I'd fallen out of using SF for much and stopped using CD-Arch when I switched to XP -- and they didn't for several years.) Anyhow... new owner Sony is, in my experience, really a problematic company. Their products often have cool features but short lives or require inordinate numbers of repairs. Almost everytime I buy something from them, I regret it. My new Sony VCR has a lot of features but really crummy picture quality. My new Sony [cheapo] headphones sound terrible and are the least comfortable headphones I've ever used. About the only thing I can think of I've bought with a Sony nameplate in the last 10 years that wasn't a disppointment was a little [overpriced] battery powered stereo mic for use with my Mini-Disk recorder. It was fine. But the good will they got from me on that purchase [and the reasonable price of the SF/CD-A upgrade] is just about gone... [i'll admit it -- this may be a bit of a scorned-lover thing... Sony was the very first consumer company I fell in love with back at the beginning of the 60's. My first two (proper) tape recorders were Sony. I loved 'em. But that was many disappointing Sony products ago. Including the most expensive conventional cassette machine I've ever owned -- and it was a TOTAL piece of crap. Anyway...]

Members Anderton Posted August 22, 2005 Members Posted August 22, 2005 You'll need to check the audio options in the Cakewalk programs. If you're using Acid with ASIO, then make sure the Cakewalk programs are using ASIO as their drivers. Regarding Sony software, my experience with it has been what I call "The Cubase Effect." In other words, a version comes out, and shortly thereafter, a bug fix release appears that makes things right. As soon as I get a Sony product to check out, the first thing I do is go to the web site and download the update. FYI when I complained about rewire problems with Acid 5 during the course of reviewing it, they took note of it and the most release rev fixes those problems. So I wouldn't say they're unresponsive; after some rough times prior to the Sony purchase, they're working pretty hard to keep their programs up to snuff.

I have been using the Guitarport and Protracks 2 for over 2 years so its not like I dont know what to select in there , something happend since the Acid install .

The original release had a lot of things broken, including the invaluable 'Find' tool. But they have now put out two patches and the software is working where it should. I just ordered the Vegas + DVD Upgrade yesterday (from Vegas 3) and started dinking around with it. Hopefully, it will be in usuable condition without too much tweaking required.

And, as Craig asked, have you switched both programs to ASIO and tried to record?
