Members Anderton Posted August 22, 2005 Members Posted August 22, 2005 Pretty interesting...Digidesign certainly seems to be on the move, what with buying M-Audio and all that. Here's the official press release: Digidesign Acquires Wizoo to Advance Music Creation Tools & Sound Design for Post Daly City, CA (August 22, 2005) -- Digidesign, a division of Avid Technology, Inc., today announced the acquisition of Wizoo Sound Design, GmbH (www.wizoo.com), headquartered in Bremen, Germany. Wizoo is a pioneering developer of virtual instruments, sample libraries, and real-time effects led by three principals including keyboardist, sound designer and author Peter Gorges, Steinberg Media Technologies co-founder Manfred Ruerup, and legendary film composer Hans Zimmer. Wizoo also provides the essential components of many other influential virtual instrument products throughout the industry with their broad array of synthesis and sampling

Members Rabid Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Until I read this on KvR this morning I had no idea they had bought Izotope. That that is a bit strange considering the the Izotope plugs started out as DXi only. Ozone is my favorite effect plug. Robert
Members spokenward Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I think that Izotope is just a distribution deal. about Izotope And speaking of Izotope is anybody else having trouble using the Direct X version of Ozone in Sound Forge 8?
Members Anderton Posted August 23, 2005 Author Members Posted August 23, 2005 Really? Apart from the recent Wizooverb I feel they are the weakest contender out there when it comes to sample quality and sample libraries. I think Darbuka and Latigo are excellent, so do most other people who have tried them. And while Hypersonic lacks depth to my ears, it's amazing how little resources it takes. I also thought the Wizoo content for HALion 3 was quite impressive. Oh yeah, and of course, Technoid Guitars was a masterpiece! :) But seriously, I also know Wizoo is working on other things that started when Hans Zimmer came on board, and I think perhaps that's what really piqued Digi's interest.
Members Joe Cole Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Does anyone see this as bad news for Steinberg? Isn't a large chunk of their VSTi's co-designed or licensed from Wizoo?
Members Rabid Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 If I remember correctly Wizoo was the first to offer online, download on demand samples. I used to buy some for GigaSampler. Then they started focusing on the Steinberg sampler and I stopped going there. They do have a few packs for XPhrase but to me they focused too much on one note wonders and not enough on usable material. Robert
Members Anderton Posted August 23, 2005 Author Members Posted August 23, 2005 Does anyone see this as bad news for Steinberg? Not really. I'm sure the things that Wizoo already did for Steinberg will continue to be marketed. As to new instruments, with Yamaha's muscle behind them, I don't see any problems for Steinberg.
Members Robman2 Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 The Japanese and Germans that should be interesting...according to a Digi rep who shall remain nameless... The Jurys out as far as Stienberg at Yamaha for me and I'm a fan... Reasons, a few but personal so far. We'll see...
Members Artur Meinild Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Oh yeah, and of course, Technoid Guitars was a masterpiece! Fancy, and yet subtle... However, I hope Wizoo don't let their Cubase customers down because of this, and continue to do VST versions of their products...
Members Anderton Posted August 25, 2005 Author Members Posted August 25, 2005 I'll ask some of the guys at Wizoo...but there's never been a VST version of Amp Farm, if that means anything.
Members Anderton Posted August 25, 2005 Author Members Posted August 25, 2005 Well, I asked Peter Gorges of Wizoo what was up with Digi, VST, etc. Not surprisingly, their future plans are secret as of now. However, he reassured me that the products that get distributed by M-Audio, like the M-Rigs, Latigo, Darbuka and the WizooVerbs will continue to be distributed by M-Audio so they'll be available. Which is a good thing, I'd hate to be without Latigo and Wertigo
