Judging from the distribiution of skills/jobs reported here there does seem to be something to that. A really large portion of forumites seem to be in IT.

Interesting.

Of course, it may be that those are the folks sitting around in front of computers with a minute or two to spare.

Show hands: how many are on the job, right now?

Well, on second thought...

Just a plain old blue collar worker here. I'm the dispatcher for a foodservice company, and play lead guitar and sing with two local weekend bands.

Before I got the dispatching job, I worked as a route driver for 25 years, 20 of them delivering ice cream before I came to my present company.

In the past, my first job was slinging cow manure and tossing hay. I then worked as a dishwasher, pumped gas, worked at a food counter, a dairy, a cheese factory in Idaho and a biological research company before I spent four years as an Air Force medic, then worked for three years in a grocery store when I got out. I then started my driving career.

As to my dream job, I'm very happy with what I do now, but I wish I'd gotten more training to work with/on computers. Of course, I'd love to play music full time, but that's not going to happen, I've got bills to pay!

Nothing plain or old about being a food service dispatcher. We've all gotta eat, and if it wasn't for guys like you doing their jobs, we'd be in trouble. And as to your agri and Air Force medic background...if I were the guy who chose who was to go into the lifeboat to make for a desert island, I'd choose someone with your background over an attorney anyday.

1. I'm a lawyer. In house counsel for a company that does something more or less non-exciting.

2. In college, I tended bar, delivered appliances, waited tables and the retail thing.

3. I'd love to be a pro screenwriter and be involved in moviemaking. Or a World Famous Rock and Roll Musician. ;)

A - What is your current occupation?

I have two main gigs - I'm the VP of US operations for ADAM Audio and sales manager for Dave Smith Instruments. I also do some voice over work here and there...

B - What jobs have you done in the past?

Music related:

Working for other manufacturers (Kurzweil and Alesis), working in a bunch of different music stores, playing in various bands, and a short stint as keyboard tech on Miles Davis' road crew.

Non-music related:

Not much. Mainly working in sub shops and doing some cooking when I was in college.

C - What would you like to do for a living?

More voice artist work.

Currently I'm Senior Sound Designer for Red Storm Entertainment working on computer games. I also work part-time for Gale Froce Media mixing audio for The Carolina Hurricanes and NC State football and basketball games.

Jobs I've had in the past:

Meat cutter (job through college)

Del Taco employee!!

Asset Protection for Mervyn's

Narc for a high school (Campus security)

Builders Emporium employee (electrical dept)

Shoe salesman (Ooo fun!)

Dream job would be what I'm doing now, creating sound effects, writing music, recording voice-overs, etc. I guess I'd love to get a song of mine cut by a major artist, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

This is a great thread. It's neat to see what people are doing.

A - What is your current occupation?

Engineering Technician in forward product engineering.

B - What jobs have you done in the past?

Oriental rug repair and service, install driveways on an asphalt crew, sold stereo systems and electronic equipment.

C - What would you like to do for a living?

If I were laid off tomorrow, I would go to nursing school. I have a good friend who is a nurse in the heart transplant unit here in Rochester, and as I was an EMT in the past and he knows my skills and my patient rapport, he would love to have me work with him on his floor... He's a great guy and it is really tempting, if I could afford to pay for my house and pay for school as well... I would still love to build guitars on the side and as a source of income during my retirement years. Boggs
