Other than this, I cannot think of anyone I want to see (and sometimes I get some free corporate tickets). Jaded? Perhaps.
Members Tedster Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 On second thought, I might go see The Aristocrats for $200. Not the movie...the real act. HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Members Tedster Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Although I seem to remember McCartney doing some special thing a few years back...it was supposedly him playing at a dinner...and tickets started at $500. It was a charity thing for his minefield deal. That might be something that I'd consider shelling a high price out for.

Members EnemyofSilence Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Originally posted by Base I probably would have paid it to see David Bowie, but I've heard from people who have seen him in the last couple of years that the show really isn't that great anymore. Too bad ya missed him - his voice has never been better, and the band was the best he's ever had - period. Unfortunately his touring days are most likely finished. I flew over to London to see his show during Meltdown 2002. I took my oldest sister who lives over there. She'd never seen him live, but 2 songs into his show she turned to me and said, "oh, NOW I understand why you'd fly across the ocean to see him!"

I saw him 5 years or so ago at 328 performance hall in Nashville, and it was an awesome show. One of the best concerts I've been to.
Members blackpig Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I wouldn't pay $200 if the Pope were to come and do bike stunts in my living room. Everyone's charging stupid money to hear stupid acts - if they were {censored}e for $4.50, they're still {censored}e now, only richer.
Members Floridafred Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I feel fortunate to live near "The Bamboo Room" in Lake Worth, Florida. It is a small blues room with incredible accoustics and sound system. Ticket prices range from free to 20 or 30 bucks 5 nites a week. Of course the big names can't play a venue like this but I have seen some incrdible musicians and bands. Tonite I"m going to a free show by Slip and the Spinouts?????? A few beers and a nice tip for the waitress and I'm having a great time for 20 bucks. Last week I saw the Codetalkers $37 per ticket (ouch). But they were great. I have tickets to see Dr. John in a couple of weeks at the Carefree theatre a much larger venue. They were $50.00 which is about my limit but they should be pretty close. I would never go to a stadium, even for free to see anyone. But that's just me.
Members texas twelve Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 If Plant, Page, and Jones got together for a tour, assuming they could find a drummer who could at least do 60% of what Bonham could do, I would scrape up the green for that.

Members zone_ahead Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 i'm usually leary of seeing "legends" after their prime. usually pretty unenthusiastic and tired. not my cup of tea and definitely not worth that kind of money that tickets end up going for.
Members linwood Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I've got $200 for a Weather Report reunion. When will that happen?
Members tdempsey Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Double bill: Pink Floyd/Led Zep. It is a hypothetical, right?

Members Miket156 Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 Quote by Ani: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I would love to see Pink Floyd or the Eagles, either one play, but I wouldn't pay $200.00 a head to go see any band play. Ticket scalpers proved that there was a market beyond affordable and now the promoters know that people are willing to pay the price... I'm not a Garth Brooks music fan, but the man earned my utmost respect when he came to Kansas City and played Kemper Arena. When the information was first released that he was coming to K.C. during the height of his career, the ticket prices were set at the same rate as other huge acts..... When Garth Brooks learned of the ticket prices being presented to the public, he refused to play the venue unless the tickets were lowered back down to where the average working man could afford to come and watch him play. I don't remember exactly how he put it, but it was something like, "It's the average working class that made me who I am today; I'm not going to allow my ticket pricing to be placed outside of their reach." The article hit the front page of the local news paper, and I think that it even hit the broadcast news channels as well; the venue/promoters obliged his wishes and his show was sold out and IIRC booked and sold out for the following night as well. Had I not been scheduled to work both nights, I would have gone to one of the shows just to watch this humble man perform. It's too bad that there are not more artists that take a stand for the people that support the sales of records, instead of cowering down to the labels and the other black suits in the biz that steal both sides blind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ani-you're absolutely CORRECT about Garth Brooks. Back when he was touring, he played at the Brice Jordon Center in State College, PA. He put his show on a number of nights in a row so everyone could get to see him at the low ticket prices he was charging. There was a similar article in the local newspaper about Garth Brooks controling the ticket prices so people could afford to see him. He stayed in town about 3 or 4 days because his shows were all sold out. I heard from some of the locals that Garth was seen "around town" during the day, talking to people, signing autographs, and just hanging out for a few hours with the locals. I have deep admiration for a big name star that didn't forget where he came from. I paid 76 bucks to see the Eagles when they were on their Hell Freezes over tour, also at Brice Jordon Center. It was considered expensive for the time period, but the concert was worth every penny. I was about 25 feet from Joe Walsh's stage amp, and I could hear the other stage amps as well. It was a lot more intimate than getting blasted out by a HUGE PA system cranking out 139 db's. It was probably the best concert I ever went to. These days I wouldn't pay 200 bucks to see anyone. No money. Mike T.
Members ZenFly Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 none. unless it was in a very small private venue with perfect seats and sound. Else I'll buy the DVD.
Members gluten Posted August 26, 2005 Members Posted August 26, 2005 I would pay $500 to watch me play prepared piano while wearing a ape suit then i would get half of the door even if would be 1 attendee . Much better than the 30 buks plus 2 dollars in tips +drinks i made last night playing bossa dinner music and standards Have a great day Mango
Members Fear My Potato Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 I'd pay $200 to see Pink Floyd or the original lineup back together from Jefferson Airplane. I'd definately pay $200 to see Phish, provided they did the lightshows in concern like they used to. Up until a couple weeks ago I would've paid that much to see Medeski, Martin & Wood but fortunately I pulled it off for free!
Phil O'Keefe Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 original lineup back together from Jefferson Airplane. Please define "original lineup." Do you want Bob Harvey on bass, or Jack Casady?
