Members Anderton Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Ticket prices keep going up, and there have been a lot of disappointments in the concert circuit last summer in terms of crowds. But are there are some groups or solo artists you like so much you'd pay $200 for a chance to see them? Now, I'm referring only to groups that are actually playing (no "I'd pay $200 to see Miles Davis"), although you could list a group that's still around but hasn't played in a while. Tickets, anyone? I'll get things started: I'd pay $200 to see Kraftwerk, the Eagles (and I'm not really an Eagles fan, I just like seeing musicians who can actually play), or Kassav.
Members Bob Keelan Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Truthfully, none. I've already seen them all when they were at the top of their game and the tickets were $4.50.

Members Ani Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I would love to see Pink Floyd or the Eagles, either one play, but I wouldn't pay $200.00 a head to go see any band play. Ticket scalpers proved that there was a market beyond affordable and now the promoters know that people are willing to pay the price... I'm not a Garth Brooks music fan, but the man earned my utmost respect when he came to Kansas City and played Kemper Arena. When the information was first released that he was coming to K.C. during the height of his career, the ticket prices were set at the same rate as other huge acts..... When Garth Brooks learned of the ticket prices being presented to the public, he refused to play the venue unless the tickets were lowered back down to where the average working man could afford to come and watch him play. I don't remember exactly how he put it, but it was something like, "It's the average working class that made me who I am today; I'm not going to allow my ticket pricing to be placed outside of their reach." The article hit the front page of the local news paper, and I think that it even hit the broadcast news channels as well; the venue/promoters obliged his wishes and his show was sold out and IIRC booked and sold out for the following night as well. Had I not been scheduled to work both nights, I would have gone to one of the shows just to watch this humble man perform. It's too bad that there are not more artists that take a stand for the people that support the sales of records, instead of cowering down to the labels and the other black suits in the biz that steal both sides blind.
Members Jotown Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I paid 200 bucks to see Paul McCartney three years ago. Even though I mainly did it because my girlfriend really wanted to go, I did enjoy it quite a bit. I could have gotten cheap seats in the rafters but I couldn't sit throug any concert where I am that far away from the music. I paid 70 dollars per ticket to see the Allman Bros. a week ago and I would have paid more.

Ditto, same here, but I remember paying a little more than $4.50 though.I only paid about $30.00(cheap seats) to see Jeff Beck and Emerson Lake&Palmer(seperate shows) at the Jones Beach theater about 5 years ago.
Phil O'Keefe Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 For $200? The Beatles. And I want REALLY good seats for that much money! I'd pay $50 to see Macca or Ringo, or $100 for the pair. Seriously, there would be very few acts I'd pay that kind of money to go hear. Sir Paul would be one of them.
Members Shars Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I'd spend alot more than $200 on seeing Return To Forever reform with Chick Corea in the band not out of itThat would be the icing on the cake for me. I'd also spend mobney to see Rite Of Strings. I have spent about
Members Base Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I would (and probably will end up) pay that much for the Stones, last time was amazing, I just got lucky and got dirt cheap tickets that someone else couldn't sell. Paul McCartney is also worth the money and I'd probably pay it to see him again. Probably The Who as well.... I probably would have paid it to see David Bowie, but I've heard from people who have seen him in the last couple of years that the show really isn't that great anymore. Any of these acts, I would of course want front row centre seats for that much money!!!!! I know we aren't allowed to suggest acts that aren't around anymore, but I would have paid that and more to see Queen with Freddy, even if it was at the back!!!!!!!! I'm kicking myself for even missing the latest Queen and Paul Rodgers tour (tho I wouldn't fork out quite as much to see that one).....
Members XXX Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 A personal concert with Angelia Jolie and just me and she brings me on stage to give me oral . thats about it .
Members EugeneBr Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 none, for I prefer a relaxed club atmosphere and if there's a great band coming to a small club with $200 tickets, the place will be jammed and goodbye the atmosphere :-((( It's not about the money, u c?
Members where02190 Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Put me in the no one club as well.
Members LBN Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I effectively paid several hundred dollars to see Kraftwerk in 2004. Plane ticket to Seattle plus tickets for two. It was worth it since I've wanted to see them for over 20 years.
Members Rudolf von Hagenwil Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Elvis, Antonio Vivaldi, The Beatles and Frank Zappa! that's all folks oh sorry, also the Stones
Members Tim Mayock Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I will not pay that much to see any band in a civic center, or any big show. You need to wear binoculars to see them and the sound is a gamble. I think in terms of value it could be great to see a major act in a 300 seat room but that doesn
Members Rabid Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 There are no currently playing acts that I would pay $200 to see. I consider $90 for a Broadway production my upper limit. Well, OK. I might pay $200 for the origional members of Santana, but I guess that does not qualify since you stated currently playing acts. So, never mind. Back to "nobody". Robert
Members flemtone Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Tony Bennett. In the 'Wishful Thinking' department, I'd say Frank Sinatra, circa 1965. Shars, I'm envious - L42 from front row??? Must have been GREAT! peace, Tim from Jersey
Members Mike McLenison Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Maybe for a McCartney concert and within the first 10 rows in front of the stage. In 2002 I got $52 "obstructed" seats that were off to the left, slightly in back of him. Actually great seats! He was about 30 feet away from me whenever he played his baby grand. I got to also see alot of the behind-the-scenes stuff with his staff and roadies.
Members Tedster Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I bought a $100 ticket to see Macca in Detroit a couple years ago...and subsequently drove to Detroit for the show. It was worth it, but, I can't rightly say that I'd do that for most acts. Keep in mind I have friends and family in Michigan so I could stay with them, and gas was cheaper back then.
Members The Pro Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 Since I play nearly every night then going to a concert is a luxury that usually costs me a night's wages, so effectively all tickets are going to be $200+ for me. As far as an actual $200 ticket: I've always been a big fan of Laurie Anderson, and if she would do another big concert like the "Mister Heartbreak" or "Moby Dick" tours then I might pay serious bucks to see that, but that's just me. Love to see her tour with her significant other, Lou Reed. Otherwise, noone.
Members Mr. Botch Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I paid well over $200 to go to O'Keefe's place and watch a bunch of ragtag nobodys play last summer. They weren't too bad. Other than that, nobody (I love DVDs).
Members doug osborne Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 The best available McCartney tix at Staples Center: 214 12 FULL PRICE ADMISSION US $129.75 US $15.00 PRICE LEVEL 2LEVEL 200 SEATINGREAR LIMITED VIEW SEATING Floor seats $300-500 and up each on Cragslist and eBay. I might even pay $200 each, if I could, but the ticket industry is gamed so that insiders (I am guilty of taking advantage of this a few times...) and scalpers get the good seats before us normal people have a chance. Ringo played at the El Rey theater (a small hall with terrible, awful sound) for about $50 earlier this year. The Stones will probably play a set at a club in LA in November...good luck...
Members GY Posted August 23, 2005 Members Posted August 23, 2005 I have great tickets for the Eagles, McCartney and just saw Petty. Okay... I won the Eagles and Macca tickets and the Petty tickets were from a client who couldn't go at the last minute. Petty was great as I'm sure the Eagles and Macca will be, but I've got better places to spend $200. If you aren't in the first section (Staples Center, Arrowhead Pond etc), you might as well not go... and those tickets are going to cost you more than $200.
