Members TheWewus Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 ETC. Who are they? They're feeding off of the young people in The United States, and the world. What gives them the right? To do that. Who are they? That's my first question.
Members Billster Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 A group of 50ish men who are living out their God complex/Svengali complex/sick fantasies writing bull{censored} like "Hit Me Baby One More Time" for shapely teenagers to sing. What I want to know is their real goals. It can't be just the money - why are they indoctrinating the young audience with non-stop sexual innuendo and superficiality?
Members Anderton Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 They are accountants. They have found out what makes money.
Members Danocoustic Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 It's me. All of it. Just me

Billster, have you heard the Fountains Of Wayne cover of that song? I hated the original, but after hearing it covered in a different style / non-overproduced version, I actually think it's a pretty decent song. Seriously.

In my personal judgement day, I want corporations to be held accountable for what they actually MAKE, or DO, or PROVIDE, not how the money sorted out. And I'm an accountant, FWIW. nat whilk ii

You are SO right. And this is a disease that affects all media -- TV, radio, record companies, magazines, you name it, not just giant corporations. I wish companies would take long-term views. The constant repacking of greatest hits and recycling of vault material is failing to build the next generation of recording artists. Sure is profitable, though...especially when you repackage stuff from Dead Guys who can't complain about not getting royalties.

I like the idea though. I like turning songs upside down with a cover. There is a guy named Ben Lee who does Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" in a singer/songwriter solo guitar/vocal style that is something to hear. Puts a new light on the song. I always wanted to hear a tough/sexy female singer like Chrissie Hynde do Pete Townshend's "Rough Boys". Any volunteers for Collaboration Corner deal? Lee?
Members bongfodder Posted August 29, 2005 Members Posted August 29, 2005 Media whores, pap fed elitists, mindless drones. Jesus Christ what kind of world do you live in? And who the hell is Hillary Duff? Yeah I'd like to see Penelope Spheeris do the Decline of Western Civilization now. She'd have to take her thumb out of her ass first so it probably won't happen.
Members D Charles Posted August 29, 2005 Members Posted August 29, 2005 And to think it all started with Peter Frampton...
Members Ernest Buckley Posted August 29, 2005 Members Posted August 29, 2005 I didn`t know this was still a mystery. Sex sells. Everyone is money hungry. Do we need to explain any further?

Members Raymar Posted August 30, 2005 Members Posted August 30, 2005 Probably the White House to keep the younger generation's mind off of Iraq, the environment and higher gas prices. Wouldn't want those issues going through their minds while they're watching DVDs in their SUVs.

Members elbow Posted August 30, 2005 Members Posted August 30, 2005 gotta blame some parents on this crap too. I couldn't imagine pimping one of my kids into doing the pre-teen wet dream stuff. So far my kids (1 in college, 2 in high school) seem to have some decent taste in music.. not that I push them or deride them for their musical choices, but the stuff they listen to seems to be pretty decent stuff.. fairly hard edged rock, but it's got some sensibility to it. When we ride somewhere together, we split the time on the CD player. I listen to theirs and they listen to mine. You gotta get them exposed to some of the classics too....... I took mine to a Ted Nugent show about 3 years ago. They came out with the same grin I had... brought tears to my eyes.
Members realtrance Posted August 30, 2005 Members Posted August 30, 2005 I blame it all on Bessie Smith. And then Bonnie Raitt.
