Saw Julie Day at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood tonight...

What a great show! I was asked a few weeks ago to mix the show, and it was a great concert. Had a really good time, except the sound guy sucked. ;):D Julie was playing with a new trio behind her - the Josh Nelson Trio - great players - just piano, upright bass and drums. Anyone ever been over there? I thought it was a cool club.

I have some pics on the way, in case anyone would like to see 'em. :)

Sorry for the semi-spam, but they don't let me out very often, and I just wanted to mention it. ;) Sorry for not saying anything in advance... it would have been nice to be able to get together with some of the LA / Hollywood area forumites. Hopefully next time.

Cool, sounds like a good show. icon14.gif I'd like to catch one of her performances sometime. Do they ever tour up north?

So, tell us the details of the mix. :) What kind of board was it? Did you bring any special mics from your collection? Don't tell me you put a 57 on the kick, when you could've brought an RE-20. :D

Uh, errr... mics? ;) Buddy, trust me - you DON'T want to know the mic lineup.;):D

The board was a Soundcraft Series 2. Not too shabby - first time I've ever used one of those. Not a ton of stuff in the rack - a couple of dBx 166's, a few dBx Drive Racks (pretty cool) and for verb, one lonely Lexicon MPX-550. But I didn't feel like I was lacking anything either - after all, it was jazz (no need for tons of outboard effects IMO) and as I said, it's a pretty good sounding room.

If she ever gets up to the Bay area, I'll be sure to let you know when and where. :)
