Phil O'Keefe Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 The Coasties have their hands full at the moment, rescuing people who are stranded on rooftops all over the place in the Katrina ravaged areas of the south... I tip my cover to you fine folks. Thank you for your service!
Members Tedster Posted August 31, 2005 Members Posted August 31, 2005 I worked for two and a half years at the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office and Vessel Traffic Center in Valdez, Alaska. I was a civilian with the Weather Service, our office was in the Coast Guard building. Anyone who will go out in the Gulf of Alaska, braving 20-30 foot seas, to rescue the crew of a salmon seiner in distress has my ultimate respect. That goes for either braving hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, or any one of their other duties. Three Cheers for the Coasties!
Members Jeff da Weasel Posted August 31, 2005 Members Posted August 31, 2005 I'll always give props to the Coast Guard. They saved MY ass one time (don't ask, long story about a broken boat) and I'm forever grateful. - Jeff
Members TheWewus Posted August 31, 2005 Members Posted August 31, 2005 Tough job and those guys are working day and night right now. The Navy just dispatched four ships from Norfolk, to The Gulf to help out down there. BIG SHIPS.
Members Dogfur Posted August 31, 2005 Members Posted August 31, 2005 Agreed! CG gets props for alot of under-applauded work with high danger risk.
