Members DeuceyBaby Posted December 23, 2009 Members Posted December 23, 2009 Private invite, only 250 people got selected. Sweet . Looks pretty good. Interface is fairly simple right now, but as they make a deal with another major (hopefully) and more and more artists are added, it will look a little more visually appealing. The advertisements don't seem to be that annoying yet. Good quality stuff, high bit rates on everything I downloaded. Hopefully this will serve as a better alternative to the average consumer than iTunes. I know ad-supported sites have been tried in the past, but this one seems to be ahead of the curve. On the downside, looks like they wont be doing any deals with many indie labels, at least for the time being. So you have to be connected with one of the big four, because of the financial obligations. EDIT: Screen shots coming soon as I get a moment to pull my laptop out (posting from my phone)

Members DeuceyBaby Posted December 23, 2009 Author Members Posted December 23, 2009 Hopefully they add more artists soon enough... The indie selection is looking pretty washed.
Members richardmac Posted December 23, 2009 Members Posted December 23, 2009 What's the model? They let you download free tunes in exchange for watching ads? Or something different? If they let you download tunes, I'd go on a downloading spree, because I have serious doubts that anyone can pull off the advertising model online. Lots are trying it, but I don't see it succeeding because the money just isn't there for the record companies. But while they try it out, download like mad!
Members DeuceyBaby Posted December 23, 2009 Author Members Posted December 23, 2009 They let you download free tunes in exchange for watching ads ^ Yeah, that's pretty much it. You get to choose which you see. I'm sure they will probably have other ads up around the site as well. I know its been tried before, but like I said: From what I see, looks like this one is a little bit ahead of the curve. They may have to get a little crazy wit the ads, but it sure beats the alternative: downloading a virus, getting sued for 8 million dollars, or worse yet for me, getting something with a horrible bit rate on it. I try not to listen to anything compressed below 320K. Which is the standard rate offered by the iTunes store. I know a bunch of the posters in this section are cynical about record labels, but seems that they have already made a deal with at least one major, and are close to sealing another one. I like to stay positive and support the people who are attempting to change the industry for the better. It sure beats ranting about how the music business is dead and there is nothing we can do to save it. (no offense to you in particular) EDIT: I just got a message from the owner via twitter, who said they are soon going to be doing deals with indie labels. Sweet.
