Members samal50 Posted November 1, 2009 Members Posted November 1, 2009 We've heard it all before. Bands and artists looking for new singers, players, etc. In the metal world, there have been plenty, especially the underground. Not sure if there's much money involved, but these are signed acts under labels with excellent distribution and MTV headbanger's ball video airplay and satellite radio exposure, so there's a market and some of these bands tour months out of a year so there has to be some income there. Just curious what site can I find out which bands, touring/established, are looking to audition new members and or singers? Last one I heard was that legendary punk rock band Pennywise was looking for a new lead singer. What else is going on out there? There has to be a source? Is it Music Connection?
Members Scafeets Posted November 1, 2009 Members Posted November 1, 2009 Most established bands will send out invitations to audition through carefully selected channels. They will rarely post an open audition because they don't need to.
Members JohnMCA72 Posted November 1, 2009 Members Posted November 1, 2009 ... & can you imagine the deluge that they'd have to wade through, if they did?!? Heard this before, too: "That ____ player sucks! I'm way better than him! That should be me up there!" So why not? Just don't know the right web site, I guess (not craigslist?). JM
Members slight-return Posted November 1, 2009 Members Posted November 1, 2009 Heard this before, too: "That ____ player sucks! I'm way better than him! Members footmanjoe Posted November 1, 2009 Members Posted November 1, 2009 I know a lot of people are using the social networks to get word out that they are auditioning, MySpace still getting the best results it appears.. At the end of the day you just need to get word out to like minded people, so there are a lot of sites about.

Members RickGoetz Posted November 2, 2009 Members Posted November 2, 2009 Last time I heard about a PR stunt like that it was for the RHCP's when JF went to Rehab. I agree with other folks on here...those kind of gigs are all word of mouth and who you know.
Members samal50 Posted November 5, 2009 Author Members Posted November 5, 2009 Not always true, I guess you all were talking about major label bands and or multi platinum selling bands. There are bands out there that tour months out of a year in decent sized labels that have done this open calls. A band from Relapse Records called Daylight Dies, physically sent me a CD-R of their songs without vocals so I could try out for it and record my vocals over the instrumental tracks. I had second thoughts due to me being in Maryland, and the band in North Carolina, so I pass. I couldn't make it on my own being only in my early 20's in a different state. This does not happen often like I said, but is more open in the metal genre since metal almost always have same vocals stylings, not pop rock bands you all mentioned.

I think you're proving the point...Daylight Dies??!! I'm in NC and if you asked me, I would have guessed they're a Killswitch Engage tribute band with a name like that. Yeah... there are bands that will hold open auditions. Is there a central clearing house for them, as the OP asked? No Will most touring acts exhaust every possible alternative to an open audition first? Hell yes.
Members samal50 Posted November 6, 2009 Author Members Posted November 6, 2009 Not a tribute band. A real band on Relapse Records. Last I heard, the vocalist for Wehrwolfe took over the vocal spot. That was a band on Magick Records (metal sub suvision of Cleopatra Records). I think you're proving the point...Daylight Dies??!! I suppose there are plenty of bands of that genre who go through enough personnel changes on a regular basis to require open auditions. But you're being stubborn about this: the simple fact is that most bands with any real traction do not have a need to post calls for open auditions. Period. I'm sure you can dredge up a couple of examples but these will be the exceptions - not the rule.

Members Dthraco Posted November 6, 2009 Members Posted November 6, 2009 Some bands hold open auditions for Musicians Institute graduates. Definitely a good place to go when someone is looking for a professional.
