Anybody using Fostex D series decks?

Recommended Posts

I have a Fostex D-108 that I'd like to use for tracking. Does anybody know how I would hook it up to a PC for file transfer? I'd like to be able to control it from the PC as well. I have an old ADAT Connect light pipe card but I'm sure there is something better.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

You should be able to get an audio hookup with the ADAT lightpipe interface on the Fostex into your ADAT card. Control should be available through the MTC (midi time code) sync interface so you can have the fostex chase the MTC from your puter.

Thank you John. The MTC is where I'm stumped. Is that the "sync" connection on the ADAT decks? The Fostex has three din style connections for MIDI - In, Out, and Thru. The ADAT has db-9 style in/out sync connectors.

MTC is just normal longitudinal Timecode with midi instructions added to the end section of the code. If you feed MTC out of your puter via your puter's midi port and plug it into the midi input of the Fostex the fostex will then be able to chase the code and sync up with the puter. You will also need to instruct the DAW program you are using to send MTC.

I don't think I have a midi port on my PC. I'm guessing that I'll need a new card to use this thing. If you can't tell, I suffer from complete midi naivete'.

I just stumbled across the Dakota card from Frontier Design and it looks like it will work for this little project. Anybody have any experience with that card?

Thanks,

Paul
