One thing I dislike about "band descriptions"

Every myspace page or even a youtube profile has a description/history concerning the band. Every serious band, that has worked on their profile have a pretty tightly structured description. The thing that I dislike is that they write up every possible quality a band can have.

Here's an example:

"The sound is heavy and precise, but has a dynamic quality to it that resonates and hooks the listener. The riffs are catchy, the sound is loud, and the emotion is prevalent. It's a recipe for infectious melodies that ultimately get stuck in your head."

I mean cmon, let the listener see for himself if the music triggers an emotion in them or if the melodies are catchy.

"The lyrics are inspired by personal encounters, views, and thoughts of everyday life and the battles found within. Weaving the likes of Tool, Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd, and a unique sound of their own into a gritty, musically solid style"

This is just a rant I guess... Is there any way to do something different in this area? Every successful or semi-succesful band I've seen has this type of profile info on their MySpace.

Yeah I agree. People shouldn't and get clever with it.

Simple descriptions work best.

I say name genre and a couple influences, although people swear they won't be boxed in!! Which is total BS.

We're a rock band influenced by Springsteen and Led Zeppelin.

Ask them if they are also fresh a lively without being overbearing, with just enough tanic bite to balance notes of tobacco and a slightly sweet finish that comes from a late harvest on north-facing slope

That band sounds delicious. I want to buy their CD... or smoke them... or something.
