Members jmz93
Hi folks. I'm trying to decide between the lower priced Godin XTSA and the more expensive LGXT-sa. Similar woods, hardware, both have magnetic pickups/acoustic/midi. The only difference I can find is that the more expensive model has nicer cosmetic appointments. That isn't important to me at all. So, if anybody has either of these instruments, which do you have, and why did you go with it? thanks for any help clarifying my thinking ... Members numbthumb
Hey, welcome to the forum. I seriously considered the xtSA, but finally went with the Montreal. The feel, appearance and construction of the Montreal won me over. The xtSA is a great guitar though. The 'wood-slab' styling was a bit of a deal breaker for me.I think that from a technical potential standpoint, the xtSA beats the other Godins, but Godin doesn't make the most of the design, IMO. The xtSA has a two humbucker and central single-coil layout. The five-way switch is set up for 1-neck humbucker, 2-neck-split, 3-middle single coil, 4-bridge split, 5-bridge humbucker. I love 3 pick-up guitars for how they sound with the neck/middle and bridge/middle combinations. Unfortunately, a stock xtSA doesn't give you these options. If I bought a xtSA, I would waste no time in re-wiring it with two push-pull pots. I would move the coil split functions to the p-p pots, and change switch positions 2 and 4 to function like a Strat. Position 2 would combine the neck and middle pups in parallel; position 4 would combine the bridge and middle pups in parallel. The p-p pots would allow you to select single-coil+single-coil combinations, like on a Strat. Alternatively, you would be able to combine humbucker+single coil. The reason this plan didn't dominate my decision making is that I already have a Strat for position 2 and 4 tones.Of course, the Strat doesn't allow me to blend those great-sounding positions with the piezo bridge. Members Nik
I have an LGXT.I bought it in 2001. It's a truely great instrument - fit and finish up there with PRS, but way more versatile for a lot less money. SD pickups - I love it! But If I were buying now. Or if it had been available at the time. I would have had an XTSA. It's little more than half the price here in the UK. I would have modded the wiring and maybe changed the pickups, but I would be happy with it.
Members jmz93
Thanks guys for the replies and the alternative wiring suggestion. I'm wondering now if changing the wiring (adding push/pull pots) as one person suggested, will be a nightmare, given that the Godin already has magnetic+piezo+midi on board. Are things pretty neatly laid out inside?
Members BlackHatHunter
Had an xtSA. That was one fantastic guitar. I'd buy another one in heart beat. Full slideshow here... cosmetically, I think it was plenty pretty
Members germanicus2112
I own an xtSA. Its my nicest Guitar. I dont use it quite as much as I used to because I use Line6 Variax 600 and 700 Acoustic (maiinly due to their unparalleled flexibility). Highly recommend the xtSA. Never had any problems with it and its a great player.
