Members bsman
I'm copping this image from another guy's website, but I had an identical Squier II strat (MIK - late 80s, possibly 88). I think it was Squier's answer to the "superstrat". I had this guitar for many years, and gave it to a friend's son in 01 - he still uses it. This guitar had a great neck, solid tuners and decent pickups. I still visit it every now and then!

Members Noise...
Basically, every Squier from the Vintage Modified series is easily on par with a MIM Fender stock. With upgrades, I'd put them against a MIA no problem. My VM '70s Jazz Bass is amazing, and IMO even holds it's own against MIA Fender basses. Members Roy
I have the same guitar. IMO, the pickups are fine if you play clean but mud up with any gain, so I replaced them with Fralin Vintage Hots. You know, I've heard the same thing from other CB owners. I bought mine used and I'm wondering if the pups got swapped before I bought because mine are ice picks, on par with my Indonesian pups. Anyway, great bang for the buck. My tuners were fine BTW, and yeah....cool looking rosewood (can't tell from pic).
Members VanR
Thanks. FYI, I got the pickguard from GuitarFetish. IIRC, it lined up perfectly with the factory holes, except 1 that was off by just a few mm. I think they have an HSS version if you want to go with the JB Thanks, I'll probably leave this guitars as it is. But if I pick up another cherryburst I am gonna get the pearl white HSS pickguard from GFS and install the JB I have laying here. I've been jonesing for one of those Squier Strats with the flame maple top also. My local GC has a used CB for $169. I've been down there playing it 2 or 3 times, but haven't biten yet. I could get it for a lot less than that. I might have to go get it though if it is still there. It's a little dinged up too.

The only upgrade I've done is to install some Schaller locking tuners. Even the set up the guy did at GC is great. This thing plays and sounds as good as many MIA Strats I've owned or played. Members bengerm77
Squier Affinity Telecaster (butterscotch)is a great player, very comfortable neck with low action.the damn best sub $200 guitar ive encountered. I just bought one of these yesterday. It plays great but sounds like crap. The obvious solution: go to ebay and spend 60 more dollars (bringing the total cost to $230) on pickups to make a good playing guitar a good sounding guitar. I bought the tele on a impulse, and I've got to say it was a great way to get rid of the tele GAS I've had. Also i get to buy more guitar parts and do some mods to it, so that's going to be fun. Members The Fury
My new (new to me) MIJ squier is great.I dont see a serial number on it, or a mij marking. But I really dont care, it plays good, sounds ok, and thats all that matters.
Members cratz2
I have one 83 MIJ, two early 90s MIKs, an Indonesian and one 99 MIC and a 2006 or 2007 MIC. I have owned a lot of others as well. The MIJ, in my opinion is top notch and value issues aside, I've played only a handful of American Fenders that compare. The MIKs are very, very good as well. The pickups are very vintage sounding which I'm really into. I don't care for how the tuners 'feel', but they guitars stay in tune quite well. I've probably gone through 10 2004+ Chinese and Indonesian models and they are hit and miss. Considering the actual cost, they have all been very good values, but just not what I was looking for. Members Destructobot
I just bought an 80's E-serial # MIJ squier tele. It looks very vintage, beat up a bit, but plays great. Wonderful maple neck on it, ash body with semi-trans finish. The only thing I don't like is the non-traditional bridge.
Members Save The Pine Weasel
The problem with a list like this is, eventually everything will get mentioned by someone. My favorite (by a long shot) is the CIJ Vista Series Venus. They're fantastic guitars, as I suspect the rest of the Vista series guitars are. Now don't go jump on eBay and drive the prices up. Members Doctor Morbius
I have 4 Squiers. 3 of them are '51s. Squier Standard Strat Limited Edition in Silverburst w/rosewood fretboard (same series as the Cherryburst mentioned earlier in thread)Serial: CY0508xxxxCY: C = China, Y = Yako (Taiwan)Made: August, 2005Mods: Will soon be getting a graphite nut. May get new pickups and pots in the future. The Alnico pups sound a little thin/weak. Thoughts: It was a good playing guitar until I removed the nut. I put a graphtech on it but the string spacing was weird. Have an AllParts graphite nut with the correct spacing that I'll put on soon. Squier '51 in BlackSerial: IC05093xxxxIC: I = Indonesia, C = CortMade: September, 2005Mods: Graphite nut. May get a new neck pickup but will probably keep the stock humbucker. Will also polish frets lightly at some point but it plays fine right now and bends are not a problem. Pickguard is currently off. May paint the PG. Thoughts: This is one of my main axes. Great neck and easy to play. One of my favorites, even over more expensive guitars. Squier '51 in SunburstSerial: IC05085xxxxIC: I = Indonesia, C = CortMade: August, 2005 Mods: None yet. Will be getting pickups and graphite nut. Frets needed polishing. Thoughts: Only tuned it up and played it to make sure everything worked. It's been packed in the original box until recently when I decided to remove the neck and touch up the frets. Squier '51 in SunburstSerial: IC05090xxxxIC: I = Indonesia, C = CortMade: September, 2005Mods: None yet. Will be getting pickups and graphite nut. Will also polish frets lightly.Thoughts: Never played this one. Neck is removed to polish frets.

Members Electric Blues
I can only speak about a new Affinity Strat I just picked up but it's a player for sure. Good feel to it and with a few tweaks of the knobs on my amp, a good sounding Strat too. Not sure what year it is but it's that newer electric blue color and made in China. I'd imagine the more expensive, Custom Shop, Vintage, etc. etc. etc. Strats are better guitars as a whole but for $150, the Affinity not only get's you into the Strat sound ballpark... you'll be right in the dugouts. An added plus is that it has one of the best necks I've ever played. Besides, it's a perfect platform for mods should you want to go that way and can end up with a Strat EXACTLY the way you want it. Needless to say I'm happy and impressed with mine. I like Strats but have never managed to hold on to one. I've had a SRV, a MIM Standard and old Plus, which I thought was the best one of all. Although I always end up selling them off and thinking I'll never buy another, for some reason I always have that bit of Strat GAS.
Members stanfield
The problem with a list like this is, eventually everything will get mentioned by someone. True, but if 50 people prefer MIC (Vista), 1 person who likes MII (Cort), and 10 people prefer MIJ (Bullet), we then have a sample of 61 people with a majority in favor of the Vista. Which suggests the manufacturer who is responsible for making the Vista series did an overall very good job; not many lemons. If the thread gets enough quality, information-rich replies it could be a very nice resource for people who choose to buy used (or new in some cases). Members jerry_picker
I've had four 1990s MIK Pro Tone Squiers and they were all fantastic guitars. The Fat Tele was the best, but the three Strats weren't far behind. Played, sounded, and felt like much more expensive guitars.I've also had a 2006 Indonesian made Affinity Strat that was uninspiring. It really felt and sounded cheap. The three '51s I've had were all great platforms for modifications. None of mine had the normal sharp frets issue that so many people complain about. The Protones are very nice guitars, comparable in quality to MIM Deluxe or signature models. I have a Fat Tele, Thinline Tele, two ash Strats, and two alder Strats from that line, all good players. The Thinline and ash Strats are beautiful to behold.
