Members styphon
I was wondering what pickups would be best for blues rock in a Fat Strat? What would give the best gritty sound for the humbucker position? Maybe SD Pearly gates? What about the two singles? Even though its not the best for blues, I am playing this guitar through a Mesa boogie combo amp, no effects.
Members asdfjkl semi
I have vintage noiseless (which are single size stacked humbuckers). They can do pretty much anything and are pretty quiet. Hot noiseless are a bit higher output, so can get dirty faster. I dunno about the full size HB. I was contemplating getting one for a while, but I'm digging my tone, so I probably won't now.

Blues is pretty forgiving when it comes to equipment so I imagine that you get some pretty cool Blues tones with a Mesa amp. The DiMarzio Super Distortion is a pretty good all around Blues and Rock type pup. It has some good "bark" when pushed. DiMarzio also makes some pretty decent hum canceling single coils these days. The Virtual vintage Blues pup for example.

Members stratman93
I don't know about the humbucker but for the single coils you should check out rocketfires like this http://cgi.ebay.ca/Rocketfire-Guitars-Strat-Pickup-Vintage-1962-1963-SRV_W0QQitemZ300191172556QQihZ020QQcategoryZ38082QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem You might also like fralin blues specials or vintage hots. Members rocknhard
you can rip it up with a SD JB, that's what I use in my fat strat, I'm a lead guitarist so I drop it down as needed.

They have both Duncan's and Fender's name on them. You can find them at www.gtrheaven.com I'd go Texas Specials in the neck and middle, but that's me. Mmm...The Duncan JB is a "classic" aftermarket pup for sure. Mabye some cool rails for the neck / middle would be a good compliment to go along with the JB. Members ESchmidt
I would say a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the bridge and Texas Specials in the mid and neck positions.
Members The Riffer
Stay away from the rails. IMO, they sound like garbage. Worst money I ever spent. Well, except for when I.....
Members Norcal_GIT_r
BG Pups PUF for the bridge and V60s for the middle and neck. Great combo for what you are looking for. You can get more info at www.bg-pups.com
Members jhall
Is it a Fender? What's wrong with the stockers? They are quite good even in the MIMs I have an MIM Fat that I absolutely Love. Bone stock. As a guitar it doesn't have the solid quality feel of the MIAs that I have, But that never really mattered to me as long as a guitar is playable and stays in tune well(my MIM actually stands up to whammy use quite well),
Members Mister Zero
I'd go with: GFS '59 PAT bridge, Premium Overwound Alnicos neck/mid. Or: Duncan '59 bridge, Fender Texas Specials (or Tex-Mex) neck/mid. The aforementioned Duncan Pearly Gates Plus is a slightly overwound '59 with 4 conductor wiring. Members styphon
So many choices. I already have a Pearly gates, but it is not the "plus" one, and I was trying to decide to put it in the neck position of my guitar I use for heavier music, or the fender.. I think I am leaning towards a '59 and two texas specials.

I would not call the 59' "gritty". YMMV If you have a P-Gates humbucker on hand then you might as well throw it in the strat and see what you think. At any rate it will give you an idea of what direction you want to go in pup flavor wise.
Members Kid Klash
You want a gritty bucker for the bridge? You might consider the GFS Crunchy PAF. Big, gritty, nice bottom and mids, very good articulation, not very expensive either. http://store.guitarfetish.com/crpafhiouhuc.html
Members book_of_lies777
I would not call the 59' "gritty". YMMV It can do damn near anything - that's why I personally like the '59 so much. It's equally at home doing BB King or Black Sabbath.
