Members Gremson Posted March 31, 2009 Members Posted March 31, 2009 In the past hour just checking out other popular bands myspace pages I found 4 of them that have phone numbers prominently placed to call or text.I fail to see how this is a good idea. At best I would see it as an annoyance. Can anyone help me see the point?
Members MaxKincaide Posted March 31, 2009 Members Posted March 31, 2009 Depends on whether they consider the phone they listed as a "business" phone or their "personal" phone. It's not the easiest thing to get people to send you a message on myspace...the band I was in had to list 2 phone numbers for this reason. We would message a venue, and they would read the message, but never respond...but then we would get a call out of the blue from these people wanting us to play a show. Don't really know why they couldn't just respond to the message on myspace, but maybe that's not how they conduct business. I would say that if you're listing your phone number on a website, you should be prepared to receive calls from anyone at any given time....that includes booking agents, other bands, and pranksters who have nothing to do in the middle of the night.

Members supervillain Posted April 1, 2009 Members Posted April 1, 2009 it's supposed to be par tof the whole "connecting with fans thing". if a kid checks out the tracks and likes them, they can call the band and say "hey, i dig your sound". it personalizes the music. and once they've had the connection with the band they are more likely to continue listening/supporting them. i think the consept has it's up and downs. i think the connecting with fans aspect is really smart. it makes the band really accessible, but on the flip side they would probably be harassed by fake whatevers for complete and utter bull{censored}. but, that's the sacrifice they're making and i commend them for it if it works!
Members Scottywompas Posted April 3, 2009 Members Posted April 3, 2009 I think it's a good idea if Myspace is how you market your band. You'll get a lot of BS calls but the cool factor for the fans is that they can call the band, even if it only goes to voicemail. I'd bet that they have a different number for the important contacts like club owners etc.. Scott
