Members thermionic geek
New used guitar day! I need to take some better pics, but here it is for now. It's thinner than an average LP and has a belly cut. I have no idea what wood it is but it's very resonant and full sounding. I am loving this thing. Members Mesa/Kramer
Nice! Gibson matched their commitment to legendary quality & sound with their commitment to the environment in their SmartWood line of Guitars. The Les Paul SmartWood Guitars are made from the worlds most beautiful and desirable wood, all harvested from managed renewable forests and certified by the Rainforest Alliance. These models are all backed in Mahogany and topped with the following wood (pictured above from left to right): Ambay Guasu, Banara, Curupay, Peroba & Muira Piranga. The result, killer guitars that are easy on the eyes, ears and planet. Rock out with your Green side!

Members thermionic geek
My camera batteries are dead, I can't take any more pictures for now. But the back is natural mahogony. The to is about 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick. It's very cool looking in person, the picture does it no justice. The finish is super thin. When you pick a note the whole guitar vibrates in a good way.

Rock out with your Green side! this always made me laugh... south american mahogany is bordering on endangered and about to be banned for export.... so what do they do? replace the maple top with more tropical wood and claim to be all environmentally friendly. in any case, they look very nice

Members Radar-Love
...so what do they do? replace the maple top with more tropical wood and claim to be all environmentally friendly. All the wood in a Smartwood is grown in accordance with the rules laid down by the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program. Contrast this with a bunch of cretins clear-cutting large swaths of old-growth rainforest. http://www.rainforest-alliance.org/forestry.cfm?id=certification
