Members CLOCK13 Posted December 17, 2008 Members Posted December 17, 2008 How can I buy a domain name that is already taken? How do I find out who the person is to approach them?
Members nwtsnma Posted December 17, 2008 Members Posted December 17, 2008 whois http://member.dnsstuff.com/pages/tools.php but it's going to be expensive
Moderators daddymack Posted December 18, 2008 Moderators Posted December 18, 2008 Why bother? Unless they have taken every possible .xxx suffix of the name, get it as .net, .us, .tv, etc.

Members primeelite Posted December 19, 2008 Members Posted December 19, 2008 I would always try to go with dot com even if you have to go with a domain like bandnamemusic.com etc. If you are trying to purchase a domain off of someone who already has it then you could be looking at anywhere from $50 to 50k. Better off just coming up with a domain name like I said and use godaddy to register it.

Members MusicGuy101 Posted December 20, 2008 Members Posted December 20, 2008 You can also do a 'whois' lookup through www.register.com.
Members Jarvey Posted December 24, 2008 Members Posted December 24, 2008 They even sell domain names on Ebay and auctions on Godaddy. Any place you go be careful of the price - There are fees to transfer the domain name to your web service provider from their's that might not be included. If you make one up and check it for availability, be sure to use a trusted source to check with! Use a large company like Lunarpages or Slowdaddy. Don't use a sites service to appraise a name unless you already own it. Why? When I checked a common name once it was available then poof someone bought it minutes later, more than a coincidence! After days of complaints and emails to the site the name was available again. (I can't remember who it was, It was a site I grabbed off Google).
