Members slight-return Posted December 4, 2008 Members Posted December 4, 2008 Their information seems to be oriented solely for the content producer. Any experiences on the other side, using their service to license music (specifically, for advertising)?
Members primeelite Posted December 5, 2008 Members Posted December 5, 2008 No idea but you can read other articles on hear about Taxi and I have talked to many musicians who have used their services (or wasted their money) and they did not have the most positive experience with them.
Members slight-return Posted December 8, 2008 Author Members Posted December 8, 2008 One disconcerting thing is that I don't seem to be able to get a response about being on the other side -- trying to "BUY" the offering of musicians.I just get boilerplat back about "So you are a musician that needs help getting your music out there..." it's like they aren't even reading my email

Do you mean; has any of TAXI's staff tried to buy music from a member? If that’s the question; since many of TAXI listeners are A & R people in the Industry, I imagine that has happened. However, that’s not the purpose of TAXI. That deal would be a private matter between the A & R person and TAXI member. Best, John:cool:
Members slight-return Posted December 8, 2008 Author Members Posted December 8, 2008 Do you mean; has any of TAXI's staff tried to buy music from a member? What I contact taxi about was working with the Taxi to LICENSE/PURCHASE content FROM the musicians they work with (specifically, content to be used in advertising). Their site had plenty oof info if you are a content provider and working with taxi to get that content to potential consumers, but I couldn't find anything about working with Taxi if you are a content consumer unfortunately, what I got back was "so you want to be a signed act" boilerplate.

It was my impression that the "content consumers" are all very high-end, and that isn't something that is just freely available. TAXI is a gateway between lower end musicians and very high end publishers, producers, records labels, etc.
Members slight-return Posted December 8, 2008 Author Members Posted December 8, 2008 Tht's one of the disconcerting things -- they didn't even answer to that effect, or give me an idea of what kind of terms they have for the potential licensee (my client isn't the largest operation in the world, but they aren't a garage operation), etc they just sent me boilerplate which didn't fit the inquiry. Still, there were at least initially responsive
Members primeelite Posted December 8, 2008 Members Posted December 8, 2008 Yep from what I think you are saying that seems to really be the complaint about Taxi as well as other websites such as this. You pay and submit your music but there is essentially no one on the other end.
Members slight-return Posted December 8, 2008 Author Members Posted December 8, 2008 Thanks for the feedback, it would be irresponsible for ME to speculate on the nature and performance of Taxi as I haven't had any working experience with them. Can anyone suggest a clearinghouse for music that works with smaller potential licensees (the party who wants to use/"buy" the music that the musicians are "putting out there")?
Members Johnny-Boy Posted December 8, 2008 Members Posted December 8, 2008 Hey Slight, In order to be approved to post listings with TAXI there are certain requirements. I don't know all the specifics, but from many emails back and forth with Chris Baptiste (retired head of TAXI dispatch/ A&R), one requirement was a proven track record (or the very least, be able to convince TAXI there's real potential in your listing) - such as the ability for placements in TV/Film. One time I was forwarded to a company that only had a couple independent film credits. When I did some research on the company, I found they were rather small potatoes next to most TAXI’s listings. I contacted Chris, and he told me they were small, but they were getting their short documentaries on TV, thus, real potential for TAXI members. I don't know why they never answered you, but if you’re interested keep trying. Apparently you were asking the wrong person. Chris Baptiste always answered my questions thoroughly. Erin Workman took over his position - http://www.taxi.com/meet-the-staff.html - I’d try contacting her. Best, John:cool:
Members slight-return Posted December 8, 2008 Author Members Posted December 8, 2008 Thanks john; I'll pass it along (they are my client in another capacity, I'm not in advertising -- I'm in technology IP) to the appropriate peeps
