this organization known as concerts first called me out of the blue and offered me a show at slims an San francisco.

it's supposably supposed to be in a battle of the bands type format. anyway, has anyone ever done this, is it a scam?

I google there website and it has hardly any info on it.

ive done this before. except in chicago.

its definitly not worth it and very organized.

the way it was set up here in chicago was they had two stages. ( well at least were suposed to)

one mini stage in the lobby. and then the main stage in the actual venue.

it was very un organized. basically the more draw ( pre sale tickets) you sell the better stage and time slot u get.

it was so un organized they did the following:

over booked the amount of bands so they had to send the even lesser draw bands to a completely different venue 10 blocks away.

show was on a saturday and the time slots were to be given at a meeting at 2 pm on friday.

we ended up getting the time slots posted online at 1:30 am the day of the show. doors opened 9 hrs later at 10am.

we drew alot of people so we had a great slot on the mainstage. tickets are usually 10$ and u need to sell 30 to be on a stage.

i think we sold like 90+

didnt walk away with anything except a 20 minute playing slot on a lazer show stage at the congress.

definitly dont think its worth the effort.

Yeah a lot of these things are kind of a joke and it gives a terrible promoter an easy way to make easy money. These things are always set up terrible and happen almost weekly in metropolitan areas across the US. It is hard to make these things work because like you said they are always overbooked because hey who wouldnt want 20 bands out selling your tickets and making you money instead of the 10 that would actually fit in the program. These things are never worth it for the band because your set is usually 20-40 minutes and you are rushed through it. But if you can't get shows booked this could be a great way to practice and network with a few bands in the area who you could book shows along with.
