Getting into production/promotion

So, I discovered a 2-man act busking . Undiscovered, unsigned, all original, super talented (think Black Keys). They have a "manager" who gets them small house party gigs and finds them street corners to busk on while she burns CDs on a laptop to sell to passersby for 5 bucks.

I have some loose change $$$ and was thinking of picking them up, getting them into better sound gear, producing a professional demo CD, and promoting them into legitimate higher-exposure venues.

Except...I don't know the first fecking thing about this business!

How do I get schooled?

start by reading the stickies...and some of the other threads here...there is a wealth of info on what to do, and what not to do...then...go out and screw up!

Nothing teaches you faster than making your own mistakes! ;)

oh, and jp, it was nice of you to stop by...not too many of the old-timers are willing to admit they don't know everything ;)

Should read a book called This Business of Artist Management. It has some good tips in it but like many other jobs it changes daily. Most of being a manager is a mix of babysitter, psychiatrist, and a little bit of business man.

Thanks.

I am old enough to be happy to admit what I don't know.:)

I do know talent and originality when I see it, and it is fairly rare that something stands head and shoulders above.
