Members Heckxx Posted October 22, 2008 Members Posted October 22, 2008 I just stumbled across this website recently, and it seems like a very promising company. I'm looking through alot of the "Industry Listings" at its like reading job descriptions that really match what I do. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone had experience with Taxi, or if anyone know how legit or how good this service is. Is it really realistically possible to get some sort of money off of this? I guess I just want some more opinions before I join it.
Members CLOCK13 Posted October 22, 2008 Members Posted October 22, 2008 I personally would never pay that kind of money to someone who says they may or may not be able to help me.
Members Johnny-Boy Posted October 22, 2008 Members Posted October 22, 2008 It's legit, but yes, as in anything there are no guarantees. There’s a lot of competition there. TAXI acts as a middleman between you and the big guys - you know, the big guys us little guys don't have access to. There was another thread started back a month or so ago that covered this TAXI question. You can do a search to find it. Best, John:cool:
Members pjrake Posted October 23, 2008 Members Posted October 23, 2008 there was a discussion on TAXI here recently. i'm sure if you do a search you can find it. -PJ
Members Heckxx Posted October 23, 2008 Author Members Posted October 23, 2008 yeah I tried doing a search on Taxi, but it just led me to those off topic threads about taxis or such. I'll try looking again tho

Members Taylor Davis Posted October 25, 2008 Members Posted October 25, 2008 In my HO TAXI is a sweet sweet rip-off.I mean you pay cash up front and then they SUPPOSEDLY SHOP your stuff around but it's never QUITE what the folkes want. TAXI: oh, almost though bro, why don't you take it home and edit and resend it. For another fee. yeah you might find a testimonial that says they sold something but I wonder if it ain't just part of the ripoff. I say: save your duckies and NEVER pay anyone to critique your stuff.

Yeah, Taxi I guess can be a rip-off for the 90-95% of people who get no deals, no offers, no anything from their time spent at taxi. But it is an opportunity to have your music heard potentially from top producers, top labels, etc. Something I would not know how to do otherwise, so for me, its worth the try. Another way I see it, the 300$ front filters out alot of crap musicians who really aren't as dedicated to their music as others may be. Plus, this will, at the very least, give me some insight on how the music industry/business works, which as of right now I have little idea.
Members SBF3000 Posted October 25, 2008 Members Posted October 25, 2008 my brother in law got some music on a few TV shows using Taxi.
Members ZachMetal Posted October 26, 2008 Members Posted October 26, 2008 I mean it does give you possibilities that are at higher odds than others, but you still have to have skill and work your ass off on every other dimension of marketing. I mean if your band has 300 bux, it can't hurt, but eh it's not exactly bound to get you $300 in return. It'd be really cool to go to the seminars, rallies, etc.
Members Johnny-Boy Posted October 26, 2008 Members Posted October 26, 2008 All TAXI can do for you is forward your music to real opportunities - that's if it passes their review mechanism. TAXI is a middleman, a safe buffer for companies afraid of lawsuits, and afraid of being spammed to death. Many of TAXI's reviewers are A&R people from record companies. No, in the real world, there are no guarantees - only opportunities - and in the realm of "opportunities", I give TAXI two thumbs up. Best, John:thu:
Members richardmac Posted October 26, 2008 Members Posted October 26, 2008 Another way I see it, the 300$ front filters out alot of crap musicians who really aren't as dedicated to their music as others may be. There are also a whole lot of people who think their music is fantastic, even though it isn't. Taxi runs on these people and their fees. Taxi CAN work. But you'd better give people EXACTLY what they want and do it better than everyone else. I'm going to try it at some point in time... probably this summer. It's maybe as close to a level playing field as I'll ever see. I'll do it for one year and give it my best shot. If nothing happens, then I tried, and it's not like it costs thousands of dollars.
Members Johnny-Boy Posted October 27, 2008 Members Posted October 27, 2008 "But you'd better give people EXACTLY what they want" As it is with every product, if you want it to be financially successful. Yeah, I’m sure there are a lot of members that aren’t ready to be forwarded - but it’s still a good learning experience. $300 the first year and $200 there after isn’t really that much money (probably less than a suit of clothes, or a month of hanging out in bars). It’s all about priorities. Best, John:cool:

I hear a few "stories" about somebody knowing someone who knows someone who got something sold but no first hand success stories. with all the talented folkes here in these pages it stands to reason that somebody would know and be able to relate a "PROVEABLE" TAXI success story. I would like to do an experiment.have somebody like a KNOWN PROVEN ENTITY submit a song or two on the sly under a NOM DE PLUME and see how it's received.. somebody such as QUINCY JONES or a like personage. I bet it would be an eye opener. my stuff is less sophisticated than i would like it to be and my recordings are very poor quality compared to bruce swedians stuff (yay bruce!)yet many folkes(bar patrons mostly) like my simple jams. my stuff works in a live setting. I proved it to myself, too many times. I don't pay to play. I don't pay folkes to tell me my stuff ain't workin'. I done proved that my simple stuff DOES WORK. i get paid. sometimes very well. FOK TAXI and all those money grubber sites. thanks for lettin me share.
Members primeelite Posted October 27, 2008 Members Posted October 27, 2008 Yep Taxi really hasn't had many people get deals of any kind for as long as they have been up and as long as they have been taking peoples money. Their track record isn't very good just like Sonicbids and others. I wouldn't waist my time or money on this.

Their track record isn't very good just like Sonicbids and others. I wouldn't waist my time or money on this. Actually TAXI's track record is very good. They post many of their success stories on the TAXI website. With a quick gander at the Sonicbids website, I failed to see their success stories listed. I can only speak from my own experience with TAXI. They’ve been good for me (no, I’m not posting my financial records) – though they’re only one of my options. I’ve made good contacts with simple phone calls. On the negative side; many of the TAXI listings ask for master quality/ radio ready - but then, that's today's music industry (lazy execs). Even the few publishers that still plug songs want a high quality demo (most, if any, won't re-record your songs before shopping them). And if you’re thinking TV/film placements – it’s a must to be broadcast quality – but then, with today’s technology, must of us can attain this with home recordings using modest gear. Still two thumbs up for TAXI. No, I don’t work for them. I'm just an ordinary Joe, I mean John. Best, John:cool:
Members eca Posted October 28, 2008 Members Posted October 28, 2008 my brother in law got some music on a few TV shows using Taxi. I don't know about taxi, didn't want to pay $300 upfront. That's just too much for me.I'm registered at youlicense.com for film and tv placements. Didn't get any deals, although a friend of mine got a few of her songs in a film.Has anyone here had any experience with them?
Members wchua24 Posted October 29, 2008 Members Posted October 29, 2008 i think you just need to wait until someone here tried it out just to be sure. if that is really of any good.
Members WrdsNmuzik Posted October 30, 2008 Members Posted October 30, 2008 Cool note, John dude. I'm in Taxi as well, and so far have submitted several pieces, been critiqued, been declined several times, and had one piece 'approved' and sent on to an indie film (and got no reply). That may sound kinda crappy, but years ago I actually sold a little music for a tv show--which happened completely by accident--and I know what a strange and locked-up market it is, like film. I appreciate the taxi service, and am now conciously working on new recordings with it in mind--which is nice, because it's forcing me to learn and improve my recording craft, make real improvements in my homestudio. Nothing like an actual goal to instill a little discipline! ps. it's a big step up from sonicbids, which I also tried and ultimately dropped.

I'm with you Wrds! Discipline is right. I can't wait for those TAXI dispatches and regular listings. It signals a busy week for my composing. I probably have a couple hundred tracks I never would have had without the TAXI listings. Also, the contacts I've made through TAXI's forwards have been lasting relationships. Two of my publishers (from TAXI forwards) contact me when they need music ala Johnny-Boy. One last note; TAXI is located in the heart of the film industry. They'll get the heads-up for film music sooner than most. Good luck Wrds! Best, John:thu:
