  1. As a wise man once said, [oh wait- no; it was me] buying an acoustic guitar from Fender is like buying a sailboat from General Motors.
  2. That surprises me. Any reason for not going? Every show I've seen has been stellar in different ways. Well, I suppose it is the same reason. He doesn't excite me very much. I bought my first Bruce Cockburn album (vinyl) back in the late '70s I think. Lots of other volunteers chose to work this show, and it meant lot to them to be there, so I didnt want to take a spot that didn't mean that much to me personally. So I unloaded his trailer at noon, got it all up the stage, greeted the talent and got out of the way. He's good, he's just not my style, I guess.
  3. Richard Thompson's style might be an acquired taste, but I'm always baffled by guitarists who don't get him. Let me throw Bruce Cockburn into the mix. There are way too many I enjoy to list or rate, but I don't remember anyone mentioning him. I met Cockburn last week. I did the load-in before the show when his bus arrived He played 2 sold out shows here but I didn't go to either of them.
  4. I don't know what it is, but I can be really obdurate (as many of you know). I had been hearing people go on and on about Richard Thompson for years. I had listened to a bit of it, too, but it never really did anything for me. Finally saw him in concert maybe 6 months or so ago. I don't get it. Don't misunderstand. I'm not saying he's not everything his fans say he is, but I left scratching my head wondering what all the fuss is about. That show just left me cold, and I really wanted to like him. I hope nobody thinks I'm bashing the guy, because that's not it at all. Just wondering what I am missing that I can't appreciate somebody who is by all accounts one of the great talents of out time.
  5. Thread Archive-O-Rama. Mine changes from time to time. Right now it is Kottke again because that is what I'm working on, & also the next concert I'm going to. Congratulations on 5K, James.
  6. Came across a thread this morning that they may have found a buyer for their business. Wait for a while. We might see CA Ver 2.0 released soon. as long as it isn't Gibson.
  7. The price was pretty steep, you could buy a nice Martin HD-28 for the price and it seems the Martin would be an easier sell than Rainsong if you need the cash. I have an HD28. Neither the Martin nor the CA is for sale.
  8. I am now very glad I bought a Rainsong instead of CA but I don't know how strong they are. It is a very small company. Glad I got the CA while they were still available. (I prefer them to Rainsong.) The company may be gone, but the guitar is still here, good as ever.
  9. I gotta say that if there is one guitar that I wouldn't worry about a lifetime warranty, it'd be a Composite Acoustics. that's pretty funny, because it's so true, and I hadn't thought of that.
  10. Should I buy a 20 year old Yamaha FG400A for $65? The 20 standard answers on a Magic 8-Ball are: * ? As I see it, yes * ? Ask again later * ? Better not tell you now * ? Cannot predict now * ? Concentrate and ask again * ? Don't count on it * ? It is certain * ? It is decidedly so * ? Most likely * ? My reply is no * ? My sources say no * ? Outlook good * ? Outlook not so good * ? Reply hazy, try again * ? Signs point to yes * ? Very doubtful * ? Without a doubt * ? Yes * ? Yes - definitely * ? You may rely on it Bubinga
